Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante
Door wouldn't close need to replace the mechanism that locks the door, I tried to take the door latch out but there was a plastic holding the wire that connects the door handle with the door lock.
Plastic clip snaps on to the rod, when you unsnap it from the rod swivel it and pull rod out of the hole

Deterime if the key rotates to the left and right first-if it does not than it's a tumbler issue-however if it does rotate-its a linkage in the panel either diconnected or blocked-not easy but from inside see if anything is around or on the locking bar-

Does the sun roof do anything whebn you press the button. if not, check your fuses and the sun roof switch. If fuses are good you want to check to see if the sun roof motor is getting power. If it is getting power it could be the motor itself. If it tries to move but can't then you have a mechanical problem. it might be binding so try giving it an assist by pushing on it when pressing the switch.

This happened to me on my 2001. The door assembly rusts shut from condensation. I had to remove the plastic panels on the inside of the door and oil it with penetrating oil.
To get it to open, take off the license plate cover carefully starting at the bottom (6 plastic tabs hold it in place.) then use a screwdriver to push up on the latch inside the door until it opens (or resets so you can use the handle again.)
I had to add an additional spring to the assembly that I had laying around because it was too rusty and stopped working again even after oiling. You can also replace the internal handle if you can get one from the dealership.
