Question about 1998 GMC Sierra

97 GMC Sierra P/U Front left disc brake locks

During breaking the left front wheel will stay locked. I have accelerate to move the vehicle any. I noticed a burning smell yesterday on the way home. I have replace the caliper and bleed the brakes, with no effect. This problem will go away for a few days, then return. I have removed the ABS fuse with no effect. Any ideas?

The flex hose to that caliper has deteriorated and collapsed. You need to change both front flex hoes immediately! Once the hoses get to this stage they can blow under heavy braking and leave you with no brakes.

remove wheels undo anchor bolts for calipers push out pads Ensure you note where anti rattle springs/plates are located use a suitable clamp press piston back into housing after opening bleed screw to allow fluid to escape to allow piston to move back. Fit new pads and replace calpiers anchor bolts. You will need to do both sides of the car or braking problems will occur. Pump brakes to move pistons out to touch the discs.

I have abs and brake light warning lights on, however, when checked by mechanic the abs brakes are working fine. whats causing light to come on?

HOW TO SHIFT TO 4 WHEEL DRIVE


Hi - Here is instruction how to do.

From N to 4H

Stop the vehicle completely, place the

transmission in "N" (Neutral) and depress

the brake pedal and the clutch pedal fully

(if equipped), then push in and turn the

switch to shift into "4H".

From 4H to 4H LOCK

You can operate the transfer switch either

when the vehicle is stopped or while the

vehicle is moving.

Position the front wheels straight ahead

and turn the switch to shift into "4H LOCK".

If the vehicle is moving, we recommend

that the speed be less than 100 km/h (60

mph) during this operation.

NOTE:

• When shifting between the transfer

switch position and the transfer gear

position is unmatched, all 4WD indicators

will blink and the buzzer will sound.

• If it is difficult to shift between "4H" and

"4H LOCK" while the vehicle is moving,

try accelerating and decelerating your

vehicle several times after turning the

transfer switch. Be sure to wait until traffic

conditions allow you to accelerate and

decelerate safety before using this procedure.

From 4H LOCK to 4L LOCK

Stop the vehicle completely, place the

transmission in "N" (Neutral) and depress

the brake pedal and the clutch pedal fully

(if equipped), then push in and turn the

switch to shift into "4L LOCK".

From 4L LOCK to 4H LOCK

Stop the vehicle completely, place the

transmission in "N" (Neutral) and depress

the brake pedal and the clutch pedal fully

(if equipped), then push in and turn the

switch to shift into "4H LOCK".

From 4H LOCK to 4H

You can operate the transfer switch either

when the vehicle is stopped or while the

vehicle is moving.

When you turn the transfer switch to the

"N" position, "N" indicator will come on with

the buzzer sound.

CAUTION

• Be sure to stop the vehicle completely

before operating the transfer

switch to shift between "N" and

"4H", or between "4H LOCK" and

"4L LOCK".

• Do not shift between "4H" and "4H

LOCK" unless the front wheels are

in the straight-ahead position and

we recommend that the vehicle

speed be less than 100 km/h (60

mph).

Do not operate the transfer switch

while tires are racing.

• Do not operate your vehicle in "4H

LOCK" or "4L LOCK" on dry, hard

surfaces.

except when shifting between "4H"

If you operate the vehicle while a

4WD mode indicator is blinking, a

buzzer will sound and the transfer

transfer case damage.

In this case, use the following procedure.

1) Depress the clutch pedal fully (if

equipped) or shift the automatic

transmission gearshift lever to the

"N" position.

2) Turn the transfer switch to the

position previously selected.
3) Operate the transfer switch again.

Binding Noise in the left front wheel during acceleration.


Wheel bearings are a strong possibility (common with this vehicle) and the CV joints on the front axle shaft are another possibility. Finally, the brakes could be dragging, though you would likely smell burning if that were so.

How do you put in 4 wheel drive


Before you start the vehicle lock the hubs in by turning the lock out device in the hub center of each front hub. Now you can start the vehicle and while in park or neutral move the range selector on the floor to the range you would like to use. Most often you will use the 4 wheel high setting. The low setting is only for extremely heavy pulling and will throw you across the seat if you accelerate too hard. Never exceed 45 miles per hour when in 4 wheel drive as you will burn out the transmission or 4X4 transfercase bearings. Now to go back to two wheel drive. Move the floor selecter back to 2 wheel drive setting. Do this with the vehicle in park or neutral to prevent damage to the vehicle. Now you can unlock the hubs by reversing the hub lock out device in the center of the two front hubs. Important little known fact is that you do not want to drive aroind with the hubs constantly locked in as you will lower your fuel mileage and cause extra wear to the axles and associated parts. Could be the proportioning valve, master cyliner or the front calipers going bad. You didnt say the milage or if you have had the brakes serviced.

you have warped frt disc rotors replace them and the brake pads!

A grinding noise was come from front left side


have to jack it to have a look first ,its impossible to say as a pad could have worn out and moved jamming it up, a wheel bearing has seized ?? just cant tell till its inspected

2002 tahoe breaks lock up during driving


i would check front and rear brakes if rears are drum brakes i would inspect springs and hardware making sure everthing is conected and in place also make sure they are adjusted properly in the front and if rear disc i would make sure to grease caliper slides these allow caliper to move and its important that all moving brake parts are free push caliper pistons in alittle to see if they are sized or not booster is ok and most of the time when master goes it will leak where it meets booster and you will have a low brake pedal or no brakes
