Question about Suzuki Vitara

1 Answer

2000 Grand Vitara breaksdown, backfires and dies while driving after about 30 minutes. Starts again in about an hour. Changed fuel pressure regulator. Made no difference.

Car starts and drives fine for about 30 minutes more or less then starts spluttering and backfiring then stalls. It won't start again for about an hour. I have not tried driving it for any length of time except to get the car home. I have changed the fuel pressure regulator but it made no difference. Check engine light comes on when it stalls.

The check engine will be on if the key is on but engine not running . This is normal. If the check engine goes out when the engine starts there are no codes present . Did you check the fuel filter . Sometimes when a filter is dirty there is sedement laying in the filter canister . When the pump starts working the flow picks up the sedement and plugs any remaining open screen and stops the fuel completely . The engine stops . When the flow stops the sedement falls back allowing flow again. and the engine will run for another while . If the filter is old it should be changed anyway . Also when the engine stops check to see if there is spark at the spark plugs while cranking the engine .

Hello I have a 97 Cadillac Seville that I am

Being that there are misfire codes, (300 series P codes), and it's flooding I would put a fuel pressure gauge on it and try to check the injectors and the fuel pressure regulator for leakage. If the vehicle has sat for a while, 1 or more of the injectors may have stuck open. If the fuel pressure is way to high it can cause the pressure regulator to leak. See if that helps.

Cars are like that. I think they like driving people crazy. I\'ve been driven crazy by my Sentra for three months now.
Has the fuel pressure been checked? I wonder if your fuel pressure regulator has failed (the diaphragm inside will rupture and suck extra gas in through the vacuum hose attached to the regulator-could be the cause of backfiring). Something to check, anyway.

2000 gtp starts runs good for a min or 2 then dies when i try and start it again it seems flooded with gas

Pull off the vacuum hose to the fuel [pressure regulator (if it's on the fuel rail, and not in the gas tank), and see if any evidence of gas being sucked into the hose (and on into the engine) from a ruptured diaphragm in the regulator. If that's alright, have the fuel system checked for proper pressure. Should be around 40-50 psi. Your car will have a specified pressure to run right.

you might need to check the fuel pressure while the car is going through its paces.

You can check to see if the fuel pressure regulator is failing at speed.

I can't give my jeep much gas or it will backfire and die. i have changed the tps and the mass air flow sensor and the fuel pump, 2000 grand cherokee.

Have your fuel pressure checked. It may be a bad regulator.

Try cleaning the throttlebody and air filter.

Check your spark plugs, coil and wires.

Check and make sure all of your injectors are clean.

Also you may want to check your o2 sensors. You can unplug them and drive a bit. If the problem goes away then they need replaced.

Hard starting when cold only why? Once car starts it starts up normally as long as it is warm. When car sits for a few hours cranks and cranks like it has no fuel.Has anyone else had this problem?

could be loosing fuel pressure either back through the pump or the fuel pressure regulator is bleeding back to the tank which means the pump has to prime the system before it starts which is why it is slow to start

Our 2000 contour starts missing and dies. It will

Try running injector cleaner like Lucas injector cleaner through the fuel system and also check the fuel pressure regulator. If the fuel pressure regulator is bad or the vacuum hose has a leak, that's where the problem may be. The other to is to try and clean out your EGR valve. A dirty or stuck EGR valve will give you the problems your described, Remove the EGR valve and clean it out with carb cleaner and make sure that the valve is not seized and can move. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to get your car running 100% again.
