Question about 1997 Ford Explorer AWD
We replaced the inside rear door handle and it worked for a few weeks, then a friend pulled on it and it has not opened since. We have taken the handle off and it is not broken and the bar it is attached to will move, but will not open the door from the inside.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

only way to repair is to replace the handles. this is a common problem they use a toothed circle to work the lever and it wears and jumps a tooth basically and it will pop the tooth off if you push it back.so replacement is only fix

The plastic door handle is broken.
You will need to get a replacement door handle.

This should help. It is a set of photographs and instructions to do the job of replacing the handle.

This link is from the handle to the latch. The door panel has to be removed in order for this problem to be fixed. The linkage is inside the door panel, it is a small diamater metal rod called a link. If you do the job yourself be careful not to break the door panel. In a shop, the labor is 1 hour for the job & if any, parts will be a seperate charge.
