Question about 1997 Ford Explorer AWD

Driver's rear door wil not open from inside

We replaced the inside rear door handle and it worked for a few weeks, then a friend pulled on it and it has not opened since. We have taken the handle off and it is not broken and the bar it is attached to will move, but will not open the door from the inside.

only way to repair is to replace the handles. this is a common problem they use a toothed circle to work the lever and it wears and jumps a tooth basically and it will pop the tooth off if you push it back.so replacement is only fix

Some linkage maybe broken on the door handle. Door panel removal instructions are availablel on line www.carstereohelp.com/strford.htm but determining the problem will have to be found on your own.

The plastic door handle is broken.
You will need to get a replacement door handle.
Go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/gtppilot/sets...57607539089979/
This should help. It is a set of photographs and instructions to do the job of replacing the handle.

Good luck.

SOURCE: 2006 Ford Fusion. Left front door inside handle

This link is from the handle to the latch. The door panel has to be removed in order for this problem to be fixed. The linkage is inside the door panel, it is a small diamater metal rod called a link. If you do the job yourself be careful not to break the door panel. In a shop, the labor is 1 hour for the job & if any, parts will be a seperate charge.

  • Well, your gonna need to remove the door panel to inspect the linkages and what not. Please note for the f150 and f250 suicide doors, the little plastic pieces that hold the cable on back there are notorious for braking and the cables go bad frequently too. So I will list the steps to get at and remove the cable. If this is not the problem then you will have to inspect a little bit.

  1. The panel/s on the suicide doors are fairly easy to come off as the is no much to them. A few screws and then the panel just lifts out.
  2. Now you can reach up in the door and pull on that cable and this will release the top latch.
  3. Unhook the cable from the inside of the release handle.
  4. Remove them three bolts on the latch.
  5. Now pull it on out.

Regards, Tony

Rear driver's door will not open from inside

The linkage from inner handle to latch release could be out of adjustmernt or some of the plastic clips have there threads ripped out. Do a test first. compare the amount of effort resistance felt on the good door

Rear pontiac grand am door stuck

I have a 2002 pontiac grand am with both power windows and door locks. Everything else works except the lock assembly on the rear driver side rear door latch. I have removed the inside panel , aboth rods are connected. all power is disconnected to that door. I moved both of the rods correctly and the door will slightly open but that is all. How can I get it to release so I can repair or replace the latch and lock if nescessary ? I had the same problem only reversed with the frond door it would not close but after some trying I fixed that problem.

2006 buick lucerne back doors won't open

My friend just had this problem and he reached in and pulled the inside door handle back as far as it would go, and then let it go, allowing it to 'snap' back. For some reason this fixed it. We have no idea why. By doing this on one door, both rear door locks freed up and the rear locks are now working. Before, both rear locks were stuck and you could not open the doors from the inside nor the outside. Not sure why it works, but maybe it will work for you!

The inside door handle does not open the door. I can open it from the outside but not the inside.

I just fell into the same situation. My interior driver's door handle just does nothing all of a sudden. I went on the Mazda Forum website and came away with at least a temporary fix.
The lock switch can be used to open the door from the inside by pushing it the opposite way it's pushed when locking the door. In other words, the rear portion of the lock switch needs to be depressed and the front portion needs to be pulled away from the door. It may be difficult to do with the trim piece around the lock still on. The trim piece can be removed by pulling the small plastic cap away from the base (it's on a plastic hinge) off and unscrewing the holding screw underneath it. Pull the handle away from the door and the trim piece will come right off.
I'm using that as a temporary solution now until I get a new/used door assembly.
Hope that helps.

On my passat 53 1.9tdi the rear door stopped opening from the out side few weeks back, now it does not open from the inside. Please advice?

Get the Chilton for your car (any auto parts store, about $20 - and you should have it anyway), or look up online the diagram for the inside of the door. It sounds like the rod that connects to the handle to pull it open isn't connected. You might have to just slip it back into the bracket, or you might have to replace the whole bracket the rod fits in.

Inside driver's door handle won't open door. Over the past week it seemed like the door didn't open until the handle was pulled further and further back as time went on. Now it is just"floppy" and won't...

you will have to remove the door panel. It is likely the metal rod inside from latch to handle is jarred or fell off. The panel will pry off if you remove all the screws in the door panel and remove lock and window controls.

Driver door will not open from inside

Your inside door handle is probably broken. The gear has stripped causing it not to work. Remove the door panel to verify the rod for the inside handle is not moving. .
