The engine oil filter can be in a variety of places depending on the model and type. Sometimes they are direct on the lower engine block and sometimes fitted to an oil filter head which could be part of the oil pump housing or could be bolted direct to the cylinder block.
Some filters are horizontal and some hang down and some point upwards and are accessed from the top. Some filters are canister or spin-on types and some are replaceable paper elements in a removable and reusable metal or plastic bowl or container.
look on front top right corner cylinder block. the 1.4 engine has the canister type oil filter.you need large socket and wrench to remove canister cap be sure replace the o ring in the oil filter cap housing.
First, make sure the gas cap is on tight(turn till it clicks) next, check for broken or disconnected
vacum lines around the top of the engine and intake manifold area. also check the vacum lines
to the purge canister and make sure there is no blockage in the lines. If the canister is bad the
charcoal filter material can get sucked into vac. lines and cause the no flow problem. Also check
the elec. connections for the purge valve(in vac.line from can. to intake manifold) and the vent
solenoid at the canister. Hope this helps.
The drain plug is on the lowest point of the oil pan. The oil filter is in a aluminum canister located
about level with the top of the engine. You need to unscrew the top of the canister to get to the filter cartrige.
First of all you will need to purchase the paper filter that also comes complete with a small plastic tool. Drain the engine oil as normal until all of the engine oil has drained and put back and tighten the drain plug.Underneath the engine you will see an aluminum housing that has a nut on the very bottom of it and above that a place to fit a large socket wrench ( About 2 inches in diameter) you can purchase this socket at a discount car parts shop. this socket has a 1/2 inch attachment for a socket wrench. First remove the very bottom plug and only a little engine oil will drain as in order to get the rest of the engine oil out you will need that small plastic device that comes with the new oil filter. this plastic tool is what opens up a valve inthe oil filter body to let the rest of the engine oil out of the canister. After all the oil has been removed then use the oil filter canister tool to remove the aluminum body from the engine. With the removal of the body the replacable filter will be inside of the body as it is released from the engine. Note that there will also be 2 o-rings that are part of the filter kit. the large o-ring will be the replacement for the one that is around the thread area on the aluminum bodyn ( To seal the canister to the engine ). The second one is for the small plug that you removed first. After that you will need to refill th engine oil to the correct level. Dont forget to only use SYNTHETIC OIL.
in order for the air to flow in the directions that we want it is in fact controlled by vacum from the engine look under the hood close to the fire wall you must have either a damaged vacum hose or it is unplugged look close to the fire wall. Also these vehicles will have a small tank called the vacum canister which will look like a black ball or on some of thse vehicles they look like a paint can they are all under the hood for easy access. Make suere that you are getting vacum from the engine and then it hooks up to the tiny hose leading into the dash board,.
You probably have a canister filter which is located under the hood. You have to screw off the top of a canister and the oil filter looks like a small cylinder-like paper filter. Did you check your owners manual?
