Sounds like a gound problem to me. Check you headlamp grounds. The ground circuits for your headlamps actually go through the underhood fuse block, then to the headlamp switch, then through Splice Pack #SP203 (Located under the left side of the dash it is bolted to the left "A" pillar) , then to ground #G200. (Which is actually the bolt that is holding the splice pack.) I have seen corrosion in the splice packs several times. You may want to disassemble it and clean the terminals. A LIGHT coat of dielectric grease usually works pretty good to prevent it from doing it again.

It is hard to say without checking your headlamp electrical circuits, but it sounds like you may have possibly installed the wrong bulb or installed it incorrectly and possibly blew a fuse.

SOURCE: My passenger side driving/headlight works, drivers side does not. When I turn the dash switch to on, passenger side comes on, drivers side does not but when I switch to high beams, both lights are on.

Driver side headlights not working right

Check the earth connection, sounds like it has lost the earth on the off side and both elements of the bulb are coming on together and halving the power ( causing bad elluimination)
