Take the key and the car to a dealer service centre and they will program the key for you to the immobiliser in the car.

SOURCE: Remote start and door locks will only work from 10 feet or less

i had the same problem... go through the menu until you see reprogram remote. hit the check mark button and hold the lock and unlock button until the horn honks. key has to be on car not running though. You will eventually have to do it again but for some reason it will work for a while.

SOURCE: wont start security light stays on

Body Control Module (BCM) on both counts. Find a shop in your town that specializes in electrical systems to test it. Beware, these can be intermittent problems, so make sure they keep it until the car does what you have observed. Expect to spend about $450 for the replacment. Dealers quoted me between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. By the way, a new BCM will probably only last you about 12 months.

If the passkey is messed up, there will be a light on the dash that says security, or have a picture of a car with a lock thru it. If there is no light when the key is turned forward, then its NOT a passkey problem.

I just bought a 2006 Suzuki Forenza the lock and unlock on the key isn't working. Had a new battery installed and they said I would have 2 reprogram key 2 make work. How do I reprogram it?

read the operators guide yet,?
turn to end index pages.
then key , see page on key/locks.
its all answered there is clear accurate English.
can be different answer each year, (usa laws worse each year is why)

I say its not needed to reprogram ,!!
the security system does not deprogram its self each time battery out
on some cars you just use the metal key to open drivers door or others
to activate it, all this is in the book if you just read it
sorry too lazy to do that for you..

Lost chip key 2005 Taurus. How to stat car

Again, you can't. Don't tear up the column to try. You have to tow it to a dealer. It takes 2 keys to reprogram the security. They can cut the keys if the cylinder hasn't been replaced before. $400+. new cylinder $500+. Some lock smith's can do it. But not much cheaper. You save a tow bill.

Did you have a new key cut to fit the new lock that also matches the chip in the old key for the computer ?

No chip in the key

There is a  security resistor on the key and your going to have to get a new key from GM dealer and  it will come programmed right from the dealer. Once you have the new pass lock keys, your going to have to reprogram the Cars ECM to recognize the new keys and takes about 30 min. You can call a lock smith to come to you and he can cut new pass lock keys and reprogram the car and keys together where you are so you don't have to pay for the tow to the dealer. Good luck and hope this helps.

Lost key

Get out your wallet and go to the dealer! Not much else you can do. Those keys have imbeded security chips that must be programed by thr dealer.

2000 Alero Security light flashing and wont start

With the new lock cylinder in it, turn the key on. The security light should blink. Leave the key on for 10 minutes, the security light will quit blinking and go out after 10 min. This will reprogram your security system and the car should start. Also leave a battery charger on it while the key is on, If the battery goes dead during the 10 minute reprogram sequence, you will have to start over again.
