Not much left unchanged is there and no doubt you have done compression testing on all 4 cylinders as well. (If not you need to). I assume it is cranking over normally with the starter motor but not firing.

I would try one of the Porsche Owners Forums for this as one of the other 944 owners there should be able to help..... Like this one..................

No spark on 84 944 porsche new plugs wires cap rotor ignition coil dme tested good havnt checked dme relay just gonna replace it found many others have same problem and it turns out to be crankshaft sensor...

It is not hard to change. They are usually located on the bottom back of the engine. I have had cars that didn't spark and the crank solved everything. Others, it didn't work. Don't know why, guess it all depends on the computer reading it all. Your ECM controls all the ignition comonents and timing. Have you tried putting in another? Sometimes, if it doesn't read the crank, it will shut down the spark. Some do, some don't. Can't be 100% sure but it has worked before. I usually tell people to go to a junkyard when they have no spark and have been trying to fix it for some time. Get all the parts you need for cheap. A bad cam sensor can cause no spark and the distributor itself.

run a fused wire from the positive side of your fuel pump to your "on" side of your ignition switch bypassing the alarm kill switch and, allowing you to drive the car

No spark on a 1984 BMW 733i 3.2 litre good computer all it does is crank good cranksensor

Have you checked for spark out of the spark plug wires and out of the coil wire? Also, I would recommend checking for battery voltage at the coil. If your crank sensor and engine electronics (DME) are ok, I would suspect the secondary ignition components. Also, don't rule out a bad rotor button or cap. Make sure you do not have any oil inside the distributor cap.

Bad ignition switch, you might be able to replace just the switch contacts on the back of the ignition tumbler.
