Question about 2002 Mercury Villager

1 Answer

Sliding driverside door won't shut completely

What it looks like is the rear of the door will not stay shut. Upon lookinig at it, It looks like the rear latch is missing (inside the door). Two of the three bolts are gone and the part inside the door is missing. I need to find this part (and the name of it) and figure out how to replace it.

The door open light stays on when all doors are shut, and my interior lights do not come on when doors are open.

Check the right side sliding door contacts at the front of the door (4 pins). Does it happen to go off after a heavy rain? There is also a contact at the back of the sliding door (RS) that usually becomes an issue. You can either replace the contact at the back of the door (Latch). Or since there are two contacts on that door I usually just cut the two wires going to the rear contact and splice them together deleting the rear sensor. The front sensor has been sufficient in my experience and the two are just overkill, and more problems/diagnostic issues. I hope I've helped. If so, please rate my assistance. Thanks for using Fixya.

2005 Toyota Sienna XLE - Automatic sliding door not closing.

This may or may not work depending on exactly what is wrong with the door, I cant tell what is wrong without looking at it directly however:
You can try starting with all doors closed and unlocked, keys in hand disconnecting the battery and letting the vehicle sit for 2 min or so, then reconnect the battery. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position but do not start the van. Next press the button to disable the power sliding door for the drivers side, then manually open the door fully, wait 5 seconds, then close it manually fully. Press button the button again to re-enable the power sliding door, then try to use it with the automatic feature either by pulling the handle or using your remote, this may or may not work depending on if the door has somehow become de-initialized (it should work now) however if something is broken inside the door closing mechanism or door closed/open sensors, the door will continue to malfunction.

My passenger rear sliding door will not shut completely when using the buttons. It goes to within 3 inches and stops. Track is clear.

Rear door won't stay shut

Check the latch mechanism on the door. There is a piece of the latch that closes around the clasp on the door frame. sometimes this closes when the door is open and you can't shut the door. Take a screw driver and flip this latch piece open and close the door.

Power sliding door won't stay shut

most like your contacts on the door and jam are either worn or coroded. try using a soft old tooth brush and a lil dab of toothpste to clean the copper contacts. if the problem still exist the contacts or too worn and should be replaced

Door Ajar Warning Light Stays On

Our Ford Expedition & an Olds Silhouette Premier & both did the same thing. Someone online said to spray the inside door where the metal connects with the frame & sensors are there with WD-40. We did & it fixed the problem. Maybe this will work for yours.
