SOURCE: Bought a 98 Nissan Maxima 3 days ago...first car

Connect battery>>>>try unlocking the vehicle from the inside (door closed), using the power un/lock button. Make sure the key is set to the "on" position. Most of the time this works. If this doesnt work, try using the key to lock and unlock the door through the key hole. Hopefully this helps!!

SOURCE: My 2009 Nissan Cube would

Hi Gary

A couple of things, firstly yes the gap i the starter is relevant it suggests that there is either a bad earth, poor connection to either the starter or altenator and / or a fuse may be faulty thats not to sday it has blew as on occasion they can melt when a car is jumped off, especially if the car or van jumping it had a higher amp-age battery.

Secondly regarding the ECU issue why I cannot say for sure this will work it is worth a try with the current situation your having. Disconnect the car battery charge it up if you think that it insufficient power to start the car, if you can leave the battery disconnected overnight, this will allow the ECU battery backup to drain and hopefully reset the ECU back to factory settings.

When you reconnect the battery attach the red "positive" first then the earth "black" second. Lock the car and leave it for about 2 minutes then open/unlock the car and try to start it.

Let me know how you get on with this firstly then get back to me, if no joy there are a few things you can try without forking out for new parts. Also it would be up to the dealer to prove the damage occurred during the jump start, you should argue your point as a paying customer.

Did the garage run a volt meter on the battery? if not they should have before making any diagnosis on the ECU. Relay's & fuses could be a cause as the relay may be sticking hence the slight gap in starting, in theory it would jam after the click not completing the circuit. There are 2 lots of fuses, small type that are found in the car for things like the radio, lights etc and there are larger fuses for the car's computer and main running of the larger components such as alternator & engine wiring, again the garage should have checked these already.

Hope this helps, be careful the dealer is not trying to rob you as they often do. If I can help further please message me back, If I do not respond right away I will get back to you in the morning. as it is getting late here in the UK.

Regards
Dan

Everytime i hit a little bump my tured sqweaks an it knocks around the front tire. I dont know if its my bearings or ball joint or if i need new shocks. Can some one help pin point the issue.

  1. Shock absorbers (shocks) dampen out the spring motion. Go to each corner of the car and "bounce" the car. If it goes down, up, and stop,s the shock absorber at that corner is OK. If it goes down and up any more than that, the shock is bad.
  2. Jack up one front wheel. Pull on the top of he wheel and push in the bottom, and then the reverse. Back and forth. If it moves much it could be the ball joint.
  3. Rotate the tire slow and listen for a grinding noise and try to see if the wheel is unsteady while turning. If so, the bearing needs to be replaced.
  4. If the bearing seems OK but the tire moved (step 2) you probably have a ball joint problem.

4 wheeldrive not working, green light on button only blinks.

I had that problem on my 2001 Tundra. As I had not engaged it for a few months, it was blinking. So on level ground I moved a few inches forward, pushed the button, moved back a few inches and did it again to see if it would mesh together. It takes patience. Listen to hear if it is trying to engage. If you can hear it (or feel it) keep trying. If not and it's just a clicking noise you may need new wiring from the button to the unit.

Randomly won't start

My 95 legacy just had a problem not moving out of park. I ended up taking the console off and found the little button that is supossed to move when you push on the brake was not moving. With the cover off I can just push it with my finger. There may be a part to replace, I haven't had time to investigate further. I hope this helps. Joe L.

sounds like your brake/shift interlock solenoid is not releasing.
Your owner manual will tell you how to bypass in emergency.
Check your fuse first. fuse panel on instrument panel.

Please rate as fixed if this helps.

Fuse 23 - 1 5 amp
Fuse 34 - 7 1/2 amp

check enigne light not related.

The selector lever lock can be moved mechanically out of position ”P" when for example the battery is disconnected or completely discharged.
Using a ball point pen or similar item as an unlocking lever, push forward and hold in position.

Move the selector lever out of position "P".

NOTE: If the selector lever is moved back to ”P" it is re-locked.
