SOURCE: 98 dodge dakota slt 318. no heat, low operating temp

First thing first, turn off the engine wait for 15 - 20 mints, open the radiator cap and fill it up to the top then start the engine and see if it needs more water adn add as needed, then wait till you ca see the water circulating in the radiator now instead of corculating if it starts boiling out shut the engine replace the thermostat and do the whole thing again.

unless there is water in the engine the gauge will not be able to show the actual temp of the engine, so always malke sure you have water / antifreeze

SOURCE: 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 6 Cyl - Cooling Fan Not Operating

the fan motor could just be bad, you can test this by removing the fan and connecting a wire to each terminal and to a battery. the wires hooked up one way will spin the fan and the other way will spin the fan backwards so you cant hook it up wrong. I hope that helps you out!

Hi Tammie, Is the coolant level low ? If not , The engine coolant level switch grounds the indicator with the coolant level in the coolant reservoir below the minimum recommended level. The engine coolant level indicator module is on the right side of the radiator just down below from the radiator cap !

Is it normal on 94 grand prix 3.1 for the temp. gauge to NOT stay at a steady temp. all the time? mine seems to go up to 210 at a stop light then go back down after i start rollin again, i just had air...

Have you checked your cooling fan to see if it is working propely? Let the car idle and get warm and listen for the fan to kick in (if they are electric) or just watch to see if the fan starts to spin faster if it is the old school type with a clutch. Have you replaced the thermostat? A bad one will let the temp rise since it opens too late and then the temp will drop off. But it won't due this only at a light and it will do it infrequently.

How are you supposed to add antifreeze to a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix

the plastic jug is an overflow container when the vehicle gets warm excess coolant from the radiator flows to it there is a sensor somewhere on the jug or in it for coolant level if it doesnt hold coolant it is most likely cracked as it is only plastic and should be replaced

1998 grand prix gtp stalls when coming to a stop and low coolant light stays on but car does not run hot.

Stalls when coming to a stop- have idle control motor checked as this may possibly be the cause.
Low coolant light stays on- there is a low coolant sensor located on the radiator on the passenger side. They are known to go bad on these models, this is a possible cause. Have your mechanic take a look at it.

Where is the low coolant sensor on a 96 grand prix

The low coolant sensor is located on the side of the radiator right below the radiator cap. There is a connector with two wires going to the sensor. The sensor is removed by taking off the spring clip and the pulling on the sensor. The sensor makes a seal to the side of the radiator with two o-rings. Just make sure the car is cool before you do this. Sometimes it just needs a good cleaning. Good luck.

I noticed yesterday that when I turned my car off the fan under the hood kepts going for about 2 minutes and then turned off. On the way home yesterday my sensor went off saying "turn AC off to...

The fan staying on for a few minutes wass just the fan and sensor trying to bring the temp down at the radiator.

As for the AC shutoff warning, you may not have enough coolant to keep the engine cool. With the engine off and cold, check the radiator and the overflow jug, ensuring they both have the proper amount of coolant. If either is low, fill to specs and drive the vehicle to see if it stays cool. If filling them doesn't fix the problem, you may have a stuck thermostat.

When the engine was running hot, did you notice if the fan was running or not? If it was not, then you may have a fan sensor going out. If it was, you may have a low coolant or thermostat problem

Replace the temp sensor/switch located on the radiator.  Don't forget to drain your radiator and use teflon tape on the sensor when installing it.  DO NOT over-tighten.

I got a 1997 pontiac grand prix gtp coupe. the low coolant light constantly flashes. the coolant fluids are full. i just bought it and i am a little frustrated.

Sometimes the float in the low coolant sensor gets stuck.Find where the electrical connector is on the overflow tank and lightly tap on this area. This might dislodge it,if its stuck.Good Luck!!!
