Do a visual inspection of the area around the fan. It could be bent or something could be contacting it.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire and the bottom radiator hose popped off a couple months ago, got it put back on and tightened real good and had no other problems with it until 4 days ago when it happene

we your thermostat needs changing for sure. and the temp sensor if its saying that should be at between 80-90 fan kicks in at 93. if pipe is popping off would also change the expansion tank cap as well as this is supposed to release pressure on the system.

Having multiple intermittent problems

I guess the overall answer is yes it could be the ECM.
Code 16 is high or low system battery voltage.
Code 21 and 22 are both for the throttle position sensor.
And code 43 is for the electronic spark control which controls engine spark timing.
The ECM grounds various relays to make things happen such as turning on the cooling fan. So a faulty ECM could cause all of the symptoms. But so could a wiring problem in one of the harnesses.
Especially a ground problem somewhere.
If the alternator suddenly starts overcharging the system the ECM can shut down the car to protect the circuits. Unusual, but possible.
This info may not help much, but somebody is going to have to test the circuits when the engine dies or when the symptoms happen.

12v does not idle, drives somewhat boggy, won't run without blipping the throttle constantly waiting for light to change. an error code came up a couple of weeks ago pointing to the egr valve, since then,...

problems are consistent with an egr problem before replacing try to clean carbon and free valve --remove egr and with a carb or brake cleaner clean the carbon the most common problem is carbon build up causing the valve to malfunction continue to drive can cause a full break down with the vehicle not starting or stalling while driving

My 2001 mazda protege started to make a very loud noise when idleing and even louder when the fan kicks on. Today I was driving and began to smell something hot ,looked down and my ar was overheating. I...

remove the thermostat and place in a pan of water a boil and wait to see if the thermostat opens , as for the noise , get the thermostat sorted out and see if still makes the noise , could just have been caused by the overheating, one thing at a time so you know what the problem is

Fan doesn't run while in idle and begins to over heat until I start driving agin then it cools back down to normal. Also the fan runs when engine is off and drains the battery.

The fan is only supposed to come on when there is excess heat .. in normal driving conditions it doesn't start. When you start your car in the morning the fan won't come on because the engine is cold.

With a hot engine - and it depends how hot the engine is - the fan will only kick in to prevent overheating. In heavy slow moving traffic or a traffic jam, the fan will kick in if needed.

The air flow through the radiator is usually sufficient -in normal driving conditions - to cool the engine.

When you park up and the car has a hot engine, the fan will kick in. This is perfectly normal. It is caused by a surge of hot coolant triggering the fan sensor. Perfectly normal.

The fan then should cut out after a while .. maybe 2-3 minutes at the most. If the fan runs continuously that suggests a fault in the temperature sensor switch.

Next time - wait by the car and see how long it takes for the fan to quit after you have parked up. It should stop of its own accord after a couple of minutes.

If the fan cuts off after a short while, and your battery is becoming drained, that's probably a battery or alternator fault.

Remember: when you start the car the fan won't kick in at idle speed because the engine is COLD, and there is no reason for the fan to start up ..
The fan WILL kick in for a couple of minutes after you have parked the vehicle and the engine is hot

Nissan 2000 ac hot when idle

the a/c condenser has a fan in front ( there is actually 2 fans if you sit on the car it will be fan on right side ) if this fan does not
come on immediately when you are parked and engine in idle
there is a problem with power to it, or motor failure. If you drive it
on the highway and a/c operates fine that's because air is circulating though condenser (thats what the fan is supposed to do at idle or slow traffic)
