Question about 2004 Ford Explorer XLT

Tail lights & dash lights won't turn on

We installed a new stereo and the tail lights wouldn't go off. We thought we must have crossed a wire so took the stereo back out and the lights were fine until the next day. When we turned the lights on there was a pop and now both the tail lights & dash lights won't turn on and we can't find the correct fuse to check if it blew. Help!

15A FUSE 10 in the battery junction box is common to both circuits but the real problem may be due to some misconnection made during installation of the radio or a poorly made connection shorting to ground.

It sounds like you solved this one your self . It does sound like the switch has went bad, but also look for any lose or bad wires around the tail lights and the wire harness going to them.

something between your lights and accessories (a wire) were crossed and it burnt out the wire. check your wires again, go to a website for your vehicle and see if you can find a wire diagram of your vehicle.

Tail lights dash lights and turn signals not working

obviously it may have to do with the installation of the new stereo, while installing some fuse may have blown or wires are cut or wires were not put back in order.

I just bought a 2006 Toyota Corolla S, and my dash lights and tail lights wont come on. All the other lights work, such as the headlights, break lights, turn signals, four ways, front fog lights and...

the tail light issue could be just bad bulbs, check them with a meter ,, also, check the sockets for power to each contact point,, normally if the brake lights and flashers are working, the tail lights should too,, as far as the dash lights have you installed an after market stereo? If so a common problem is a wrong wire got grounded,The harness from the car to the factory radio has a wire for the dash lights that shows up as ground with the light off. When the lights are on the wire is 12V+. Check to see if you connected the ground from the new stereo to this wire. The radio will work perfect but everytime you turn thr park light on the fuse will blow...and the radio will continue to work. There should be a ground wire in the harness as well, ensure you connect the ground from the new stereo to this wire. there is a 15 amp fuse that blows, check them with a meter rather than by sight

Installed a new stereo, and for some reason my car started blowing 20 amp fuses for my tail lights and dash lights, could it be a wires getting crossed or what? i'm not sure

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

You may want to check the wires on the dash specially on the side of the stereo. If the wires are burnt or wounded it can ground which may result to blowing the fuse. Tracing out the wire and replacing the damaged ones can resolve the issue.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
