Question about 2002 Ford Escape
My brother has an 02 (maybe o3) Ford escape. It starts fine. Then it idles rough and reaks of gas. (no visible leaking). When he puts in gear, it just barely moves. He has to floor it to get to about 10 MPH. It's not the transmission. It engages and the RPM's don't rev up out of control, they stay low. Just won't accelerate at all. I've heard TPM sensor. I've also heard Catalytic converter. Any ideas?
If it smells of raw fuel look for a shorted injector dumping fuel into the engine

Your escape is a 3.0L duratec motor. Is the motor itself overheating or just the pipes? The high idle is often related to a dirty Idle Air Control module or IAC, which is located on the top of the motor near the throttle body. If you clean this, or replace it, after a few days the high idle is often times solved.

no a dealer is not the only place that replaces these; you can do it yourself and there should be 2 of them. most of them are replaced with aftermarket ones. go to a muffler shop and they will replace them for you and you can check at an Autozone or Napa for the catalytic converters

You may be losing the speedo cable. Others have reported the light flashing related to this. You may also want to check tranny oil condition (color should be clear red, and smell should not have a burnt smell to it)...
