Question about 2003 Audi A4 Cabriolet
My 03 Audi A4 has the same problem. THe fan just started coming on for no reason after the car is shut off and it runs until the battery dies. I looked at it and found the relay and un plugged it to save my battery. I think i have a problem with the relay or the sensor. Not sure, anyone else have the same issue?
Check for moisture build up on the fan relay. Have seen this problem on several different cars. The relay gets rust build up on the contact.

Got the same prob in a 2004 A3. Will need to buy a new set of fans. The new ones are sealed so no moisture can get in.the control gear is in the larger of the two fans

What does the fan do when you restsrt/charge the battery? Start up again? Replace the sending unit, or unplug the sending unit first. If fan keeps running, the relay is faulty.
if it stops, the sending unit is at faulat. good luck
