03 Audi A4- Coolant fan runs until the battery dies

My 03 Audi A4 has the same problem. THe fan just started coming on for no reason after the car is shut off and it runs until the battery dies. I looked at it and found the relay and un plugged it to save my battery. I think i have a problem with the relay or the sensor. Not sure, anyone else have the same issue?

Check for moisture build up on the fan relay. Have seen this problem on several different cars. The relay gets rust build up on the contact.

Got the same prob in a 2004 A3. Will need to buy a new set of fans. The new ones are sealed so no moisture can get in.the control gear is in the larger of the two fans

What does the fan do when you restsrt/charge the battery? Start up again? Replace the sending unit, or unplug the sending unit first. If fan keeps running, the relay is faulty.
if it stops, the sending unit is at faulat. good luck

does the check engine light come on or flash when the running issue starts? sounds like you have an ignition coil dropping out intermittenly.

What are the symptoms of a bad alternator on a 03 audi A4 3.0L Q, can it be tested? on the vehicle? how difficult is it to DIY?

Battery weak, car dies on road, It HAS to be tested on the car, to rule out other causes. A volt meter can be used to check battery voltage. should be 12.7 on a fully charged battery, and approx 13.5 engine running. I dont know AUDI but I would have a shop that regularly works on them to do the job.

2003 Audi A4 Cabriolet ...cooling fans come on at start up

Yes this car should have a temperature sending unit that tells the fans to kick on. If it has two fans one of them is for you Air-condiontion, and it will turn on whenever the ac is being ran. One other possibility is if you bought the audi used the owner before you may have hard wired the fan to run whenever the car ignition is turned on. The only reason someone would do that is if they were to lazy to fix it properly.
