If it is a jatco 5 speed box it needs rebuilding or replacing. rubbish gearbox, but double check selector cable adjustment first.try using a fault code reader to check dtc codes in the tcm,[transmission control module] was the fluid clean that you drained out? or did it look dark instead of crimson and smell burnt? did you check the level with the fluid temp between 30c and 50c the correct procedure if not followed and you get it wrong can make a big difference to gearbox performance, but it sounds like the box is on its way out have.worked on these cars since day one.

I have a 2002 X type (2 litre. done 44000 miles), dash showed gear box problem, (red circle light up). I pulled out and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later turned the engine on. The engine running but the car would not drive either in drive or reverse. Turned the engine off again and on the car driving but not much power. The care is taken to the Jag. dealer and told is misfiring + some gear box faults. Suggesting to change some coils and see (cost about £200+). also possible need to change the gear box costing about £2500+. Please advice. Shall I go ahead with the repair? Should I part exchange.

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

2003 Jaguar x-type automatically jumps to fourth gear and stays, what can I do?

if the car is jumping shift points you have a transmission control module issue..You must have the module reprogrammed...If you havent serviced the ****** over 30k miles past you may want to have the fluid flushed and cleaned because most failure comes from dirty fliud which leads to overheating inside the ******,so when you give your car gas the ecm tell the tcm to shift as needed. ..

this problem is a common failure associated with your shift solenoinds inside your tranny. of course a shop is not gonna tell you this because by the time you wanna get it repaired it is usually too late and have already cause damage to your clutch pack and internal parts, thats the main reason why a shop wont mess with just replacing your shift solenoid (aka valve bodie)

This is an internal transmission problem, likely synchronizers. If this car is still under warranty, you should have the dealer repair it, as this will be a major fix.
