Next time disconnect the negative and not the positive if it ever happens again. This happened due to the PCM needing to be reset.

SOURCE: Dies after running about 2 minutes

It's got all the symptoms of a leak in the fuel line. You may want to start backward at the tank and work your way all the way to the carb to find it but it would be surprising if it was something else. All the best.

SOURCE: wont start

You may have broken your timing belt. If so, there is probably engine damage and the head will need to be rebuilt. $$$$$$

What would cause a 85 yamaha big wheel to run for about 20 min then die and not start for about another 20 min?

Check that the breather to the fuel tank is working and not blocked. Also check that the filters on the top of the fuel tap are clean.

1987 Suzuki samari jeep starts fine when choke go off it dies,u got to keep foot on the gas to keep it running.

This is an old vehicle probably in need of some TLC. When was it last fully serviced? Get the carb stripped and cleaned. My guess there is dirt in the carb causing poor running.

I have a 2002 yamaha kodiak 400. It wil idle, but when you give it throttle it dies, you can hold your hand partially over the intake and it will take the gas fine. What do I do?

Hi Rick

If old gas has may have always kept in the carb over the winter or over time gas turns to a varnish like gooing,, when not Eng not running for a long time,,, and it may have plugged you Idle jet inside under the bow... whats happening its starving for fuel and that jet is not letting enough fuel through the Idling circuit of your Carb,, and wont Idle so putting your hand over the carb you are getter more fuel through cold start jets and circuits or you may even have water and dirt in the jets and bowl check you fuel tank if it fresh fuel check your fuel filter replace it if you going to clean out carb always use fuel stabilizer in your fuel tank just incase you dont get to fire it up some seasons , one other thing look for any vacuum lines off or loose carb bolts and screws. Bottom line time to blow out the carb and even sock t carb cleaner if real bad but you need to remove all rubber parts from Carb I would leave it just take bowl off remove jet and look for small passage ways in the jets u need a real thin stiff wire like they use for weldig torch tips find one that fits.

1992 yamaha fzr 600. Just bought it. Total newbie. Bike runs like a champ, with a few minor concerns i was hoping to get answered. 1st, it idles HIGH! Like 3000rpms+. They said the carbs were recently...

Sounds like you have an automatic choke problem. The choke mechanism sends more fuel to the carburetors when you just kick it over and then as the engine gets warm the choke (fuel enrichment) goes away as its unneeded. They may have cleaned and rebuilt the carbs, but they may have omitted adjustment of the automatic choke mechanism. As far as your electrical problems, the no. 1 problem with bike electrics is grounding and No. 2 is shorting. I suggest you buy a Haynes manual for your bike, if there is one available. Regardless, remove all the ground screws one at a time and inspect and clean them from corrosion and put them back on. Trim back rotted wiring and cut off bad connectors connectors and replace with new. Try out the system and see if everything works. If something isn't working and your fuses are all good, then you have a short somewhere... usually switches. You can fix them... you have to buy new.
