Question about 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

Hi, my name is Demarse and i am having a starting issue with my car, it is a mercury grand marquis 1995. I was told it was the computer board that was going out. What I did was change out the fuel pump and fuel filter thinking it was that. But I am getting fuel up to the engine. I ask my buddy over the phone and he had me do a couple of things like listen to see if the fuel pump is working and press the stem like deal under the hood on motor and gas spewed out like no tomorrow. He said he thinks it is the computer board because it isn't letting gas run through injectors. I just want your opinion. By the way I looked at problems on line and it seems as everyone else had same problem and they all came to same conclusion.

I do know that 99% of computers returned to get repaired have nothing wrong with them. That being said I'm not saying that yours is not bad but there's a pretty good chance it's not. Do you have spark? The ignition system must work before the injectors get their signal to operate. Put a small amount of fuel down the intake and see if it starts. Take precautions when you do this. Let me know.

you can try just resetting the fuel pump switch located in the car

the switch is originally in the car for in case of an accident, however, if changed, chances are you also have to reset it

in my 98 grand marquis, the switch is on the left side of the trunk

SOURCE: after putting gas in the car started running rough and is chockin

It wouldn't hurt to change the filter, but it sounds like you got a bad batch of gas, if it was running good before you got gas.
Get a bottle of dry gas and put it in the tank, if there is any water in the gas, that will clear it out, also it wouldn't hurt to put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the tank, I use that stuff all the time to keep the fuel system clean.

The bolts loosen up on the bracket that holds the shifter shaft to the cable. Look up from the floor board and look above the steering column in the shift cable area. Wiggle the shifter and you should see the problem. Tighten the bolts with a torx bit.

What is the tire size for a 1995 Mercury Marquis?

On Firestone's site it says for a 1995 Grand Marquis with the handling package, the tire size is P225/60R16 with or without the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system).

For a 1995 Grand Marquis GS/LS with or without TPMS it says the tire size is P215/70R15.

The page I entered in the info is here:

Hope this helps.

Fuel pump

The fuel pump for the 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis is inside the gas tank. Early this year the Ford garage replaced it thinking it would fix a problem that was ultimately traced to a short that blew a component on the computer board. I ended up paying for the fuel pump, but just paid the material cost for the computer board.
