Question about 2002 Lexus RX 300
About 2 weeks ago I noticed a high pitched noise coming from the engine section, during normal driving, and idle. Two days ago (the last time I drove) I heard after a few miles normal gear switching of the transmission until it started vibrating and after a short time it switched to neutral. When I switched then manually to 2, I was able to drive for some mile or so, until the transmission (it seems) started vibrating and switching into neutral again. During this time I parked my car, put in reverse and it did not drive, also back into Drive it did not move. I swiched off/on the engine and I was able to drive again for some miles, until again the transmission(?) started vibrating again and it went back to neutral. The car is a Lexus RX300 from 1999 and milage is about 120K. Has anybody an idea what this is?
Your tranny need to be repaired at once. The tranny is slipping. Some Lexus owners do have the similar problem including myself.

If it is running perfectly I wouldn't think that you would need to replace the timing belt. You shouldn't need to replace that until 100,000-120,000 miles. I would definitely hold off until now unless you have start having some timing problems. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Remove 3 - 4 screws on fender cover close to side marker light. Pull fender cover out a bit for you to use your other hand to reach side marker light. By twisting on one direction and here you go the light out. Replace new bulb and replace everything on reverse order.

VSC means Vehicle Stability Control.
It comes on when the sensor send a signal that the vehicle is not stable on the ground.....check the wheel balancing and alignment and the air pressure of your tires too.

Any grinding is not good. This almost sounds like a sticking brake rotor/caliper which is popping free, or a parking brake dragging. Either way the fact that it stops does not mean it will fix it self. I would inspect all 4 brake rotors for excess wear.
try to determine if this happens after parking and braking, then isolate the area you thing the noise is coming from.
Separate from that it could be a gear issue in your trans at low speed but you need to get it checked ASAP as it will only lead to greater expense.

2-4-6 could be a fuel or ignition issue, hopefully not a valve. If you have the engine tested at the dealership they will attach a code reader under dash to analize and this should help pinpoint the problem.
