Sure you can change the oil yourself. Use a good quality oil...5W30. Don't forget to change the oil filter too. :-)

And also recycle the used oil.

Thanks for using Fixya.

2014 ram ecodiesel The dealer did an oil change 8000 km ago.I noticed the oil today on my interlock. Open the hood and see oil cap missing and oil at its min. What should I be worried about?

you should be OK if the oil is on the low mark, I would complain to the dealer big time no excuse for leaving oil cap off, demand a new filler cap and free oil change and filter. Then find a new shop.

Oil sending unit and low pressure sensor replaced oil black in 300 miles smells burnt

I suggest having the compression checked. This is easy to do either by yourself by purchasing a compression tester (less than $50) or professionally. If compression is low in one or more cylinders, then the hot combustion gases are entering the oil pan and burning the oil.

If compression is OK, then check the oil pressure. Again this can be done by yourself or professionally. If it is OK, then the question becomes was there a period where it was not changed for a long time? If so, it may just be that you need to change the oil a couple of times to clean out the sludge. There are additives to help clean out the sludge.

Good luck, Jim

Which engine oil should i use for 2005 vw passat?

5w/30 10w/40 10w/30 all seem to be fine for this car - the castrol is good oul through and through so will almost certainly be ok But just to be on the ultra safe side... you can phone Volkswagen Parts/Dealer yourself and they will advise you as to the best oil to use depending on your cars mileage etc...

Oil change intervals

I personally hold synthetic oil as the high-standard of lubricants. However quality varies. Without completely flushing I would not recommend use in a high mile engine.
"ordinary oils" are far better than they used to be, but begin to break down substantially after about 2500 miles. No dealer wants your car to last beyond the warranty period. They sell new cars! Changing your oil & filter at 3000 miles is reasonable, and not too often. If you are using quite a bit of oil, take care of all external leaks you can. It will help a lot. You can't extend change intervals because of oil consumption. The filter must be serviced regularly or you will cause more internal wear.

I had the same problem, but it can be changed. I had to go to a Valvoline that had a special machince to change it out. Saved a lot of money. Dealership cost $199.99 / Valvoline cost $115.99 (before tax). Just call around some place has a michine that can do it.

How do i change the oil filter on my 2.7 liter 2008 dodge avenger?

Take the car to Jiffy Lube or some place like that it is roughly 32.00 to do an oil change with the filter included. Do not change it yourself you want a license mechanic to change it in case there is an issue with the replacement filter you may have purchased. Dealer is also good to take it to for an simple oil change dealership has a punch a deal going on where you pay for the first 4 oil changes and the 5th is free

Sentra 2008 2.0 model

It is best to get a proper garage or oil change specialist to change the oil, as it will void the warranty on such a new vehicle if you do it yourself. Also if you just want to top the oil up, best to call the dealer for the oil specification, or it should be in the handbook that came with the vehicle.
Hope this helps, Mark
