The voltage regulator is in the alternator take it to an auto parts store and have it tested most likely the
regulator is toast or the brushes when they got wet. GOOD LUCK

My 2005 cobalt went thru a large puddel and the car stoped running.

When you drove thru the large puddle of water the air cleaner system may have sucked water into the engine, pull out the spark plugs and try turning over the engine, if water comes out of the spark plug holes then you may have a serious problem.

I drive though a puddle of water and the battery light come on and I losre power steering. I put a serpintine belt on about two years ago

mcdevito75 here, Chances are your driveing too fast thru puddles, water is getting on the belt causeing it to slip and water also hittind electricall system, cils / Alternator etc. go slower thru puddles, better yet avoid them as you could get stuck.

The alternator went out on my 2005 Ford F250 with 6.0 Diesel. The batteries went dead. After replacing the alternator and recharging the batteries the ABS light stays on and the speedometer doesn't work....

Depending on why the alternator went out you could of caused a surge into the ABS module causing it to fail. Very common. The speedo comes thru the module which to me indicated the module failed.

On monday call and run this by them. The module can be rebuilt for a couple hundred bucks.

If your sure you didnt leave anything unplugged getting a diagnoses or calling this place is going to be your only options.

The car had problem before after a few months the light went off

You must not be familiar with todays vehicles and why various lights come on, in the dash display. They only light if you have some type of malfunction occur. Now you need to have the vehicle scanned and repaired. You can not go thru inspection with a MIL or Check Eng Light on.

After giving the engine a wash the battery

Please check the connection going into the alternator by tugging on it(grasp the plug firmly when doing this not the cable), you can either tug it out or gently but firmly push it to the front as the jet of high pressure water might have unseated/loosened it from the spade connectors inside the alternator.
Also check all fuses in the fuse box for any expired/blown fuses and replace as need be with the correct ratings.

My brake lights stay on on my Toyota and the

Try pulling your brake pedal up and see if that causes the brake lights to turn off. The problem is most likely a bad brake switch that fits up under your dash and is attached to your pedal, it may not be releasing right and causing your lights to stay on. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes and I will see if I can help some more if needed...
