2013 , long ago, but the CEL lamp flash codes tell you what failed.
unplugging the maf drops ECU to limphome mode.
if engine is super lean or rich that can help it run.
using limphome as a test, proves nothing. much.
no scan tools fit stinking early suzuki so.. is hard to diagnose.
the post should say engine stalls and ask for help.'
but didn't
lots of reasons to stall, over 50
now my worthless, fixya like , classic guess. (fuel pressure too low)
if low, the pulled maf forces gross rich, (MAF mimic mode that is )
every cause listed and all tests to find it."diagnostic jumper first"

My 90 Astro van won't stay running while in drive or reverse, any ideas

If you have a code reader, you should use it. When the oxygen sensor changes from open to closed loop, the issue can be related to bad grounds, bad oxygen sensor, bad MAF sensor.

Starts but won't keep running then won't start

Check your Fuel Pressure and if that is good (over 40 psi)

then check your Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve

and seeing that it is a Mid-90's Chevy.. MAF Sensor is going bad.

If you UNPLUG your MAF and see what happens.... MAF is in the Air Intake with a 4 wire...

MAF sensor on 1996 Ford Ranger.

To review - the MAF contains a hot film panel that the ECM uses to measures air flow. PO102 is low signal from MAF.
If the air filter is dirty, the air passage is restricted, or leaking, the reading to the ECM will be out of range. A vac leak elsewhere on the engine will also affect the reading.
Also, if there is a problem with the wiring between the sensor and the ECM the reading will be out of range.
Yes you could have a defective MAF too.

Will my car a (97 nissan maxima)run hot wen the camshaft position sensor or maf sensor is bad

No that would not affect temperature in any significant way. the engine in most cases just won't run or will be hard starting.

2008 h2 won't start

Most overlooked cause for this concern is an extremely dirty factory (not aftermarket) air filter. Remove the factory air filter and blow out the debris still inside the box so the engine doesn't **** it in. Make sure all the air box tube clamps are tight and the MAF sensor is still plugged in good. Then try to start it without the air filter in. If it still does the same thing, unplug the MAF sensor and try to restart. If it starts only after the MAF was unplugged then you need a MAF sensor. Check these things and let me know what happens.
I hope this info helps!~subyguru~

When starting the engine turns over, starts but then dies out even with the gas pedal to the floor. Eventually after 4-5 tries it won't even turn over

It sounds like your engine is flooding. First, keep your foot OFF of the accelerator. You are NOT stepping on the GAS, you are stepping on the AIR (and the Throttle Position Sensor). This will cause erratic at the Powertrain Control Module and cause all kinds of codes to set and gets the computer all confused because it is looking for CLOSED THROTTLE during engine crank.

Then, the symptoms you are describing are consisent with a faulty Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor or a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. (your vehicle could be equipped with either, depending on which engine it is equipped with....this would be really nice-to-know information when you are asking for help with your engine)

Anyway, a MAP or MAF can cause a start -stall - start -stall condition. Try unplugging the MAP or the MAF and crank it over and see if it will idle. Unplugging these sensors will force the PCM into failsafe mode where it will run without the sensors. It will not accelerate or move down the road very well in this mode, but it should idle OK. If it idles OK with the sensor disconnected, then the problem is most likely caused by the sensor that was unplugged..

2002 impala 3.8L 180,000kms. Having problems with car hesitating on acceleration(not all the time). Had maf sensor & idle air control sensor replaced recently. Fuel filter, air filter, new plugs &...

it is possibly the throttle position sensor(tps) malfunctioning. basically the computer or "brain" of the car thinks the throttle is in a different position than it really is and automatically makes adjustments to fuel, air ect.... based on these false readings from the sensor thus causing the engine to react a little different when you expect to have power.

Car wont stay running unless foot is on the gas

Withoutknowing if the check engine light is on it could be a variety of things including but not limited to the o2 sensor, throttle positioning sensor, and the MAF and MAP sensors. Best diagnosed by using an OBDII scanner to scan for codes. If no codes are present I would then check for the pressure coming from the fuel pump to make sure it is still functioning.

  • The PCM doesn't even see the O2 sensor until engine temp has reached operating temp, the vehicle goes from open loop when cold,to closed loop when warm, where the PCM uses the O2 sensor to measure the rich/lean of the exhaust content, and from that, adjust fuel richness to achieve 14.7 to 1 air/fuel ratio. So when cold, the O2 sensor is out of the picture anyways. When unplugging sensors,it can be deceitful. The PCM has a program whereas,if a critical sensor (such as the mass air flow) is somehow damaged and out of the picture, the PCM will substitue a generic value that will allow the engine to stay running. So,by unplugging the MAF,it did try to run on it's own better than plugged in,there's the problem area. The vehicle is running better with the MAF unplugged, because the MAF is likely bad,and the PCM is substituting it's generic value when it IS unplugged.Something to recheckThe PROM update is a newer program for the PCM,and likely won't fix it unless the PCM is bad.I would try a good used PCM as a last or later resort, because i have seen my fair share of defective PCM's too.I have taken some PCM's apart, and found capacitors that had gone bad and leaked all over the circuit board, mostly Honda and Mitsubishi and Chrysler though.Good luck, keep me posted.
