Question about 1998 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

Engine Light On Emmissions Problem.

I'm not sure what is wrong with my car. The engine light is on and it isn't flashing so it is a emissions the book says. What happens is when I am driving the light comes on randomly and will shut off when I turn off and start my car like 5 times when just normally driving like going to a gas station or going into a store. What happens also is when I am driving and have to stop for a light or stop sign the rpm will drop below 1000 rpm and it just dies. Than I have to restart it. I can avoid it from dying when by revving a little right when it starts to go below and it evens out and won't die. Also it makes a sound as if it cutting out when I drive sometimes and getting to about 3000 rpm for a shift it will just get choppy until I shift it, than it is fine. I went to Auto Zone and they did a diagnostic and it said it would be the MAF Sensor or VAF Sensor, a vaccum leak, or like two more things. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem on there V6 Camaro. I think it may be the MAF Sensor because it sits on the Air Flow Intake and I think it regulates the amount of air into the manifold but I can't be sure because I am not an expert or I wouldn't be asking for help. Anything help would be greatful.

the very 1st thing that u must do is have a full engine trouble code test run, that is a key on engine off test and the active engine running test.

Vw golf se 2002 engine management light has come on whilst driving and was flashing but stopped, also emmissions workshop has come on display, the car seems to have lost power?

You need to have a scan of the engine done There are a number of problems that could cause those symptoms. Ask your repair shop how much they charge for the scan Our shop does them free, some shops charge. Get a copy of the scan results and have them clear the codes. Than ask for quotes on the repairs.

How do you reset the computer so it can go through emmissions.

I would veture a guess the failure is an emission code problem and the conditions for the failed problem are not met. Make sure the fuel level is just below 3/4 full. That will allow the emissions tests to run. You can also disconnect the battery cable for 10 minutes and that will reset the fault counter.

Emission Failed Inspection. Engine light not on.

I've always found the following to help with emissions tests on older cars: Check & replace air cleaner if dirty (difficult to see light through it), Check spark plugs ( will also be good indicator of any bad cylinder so keep them in order of removal) - if any look/measure bad, replace the set. Check engine oil quality & replace if dirty (or you can't remember the last  time it was changed). Dirty oil = higher emissions.
Run engine on higher grade fuel for a few days and during test (better fuel = lower emissions). If o2 sensor is the problem it will set off codes.

Emmissions light has come on?

you need to get it scanned, i assume "emissions light" is your check engine light, or the "visit emissions workshop" message, which means, go to a shop and get it checked. The coolant disappearing means you probably have a leak. Another reason to check it,

Failed smog cause check engine light

I can tell you for sure that all US models of the Ford Ranger came with a emission system that incorporated a MIL or check eng light, go to the dealer and have them run your VIN on the Ford on line information service, that will give you the engine Calibration of the emission system, you can then find out what emission system was used, export or US.
