Im sorry its not the bolts its the plastic brackets they go into so now it allows the dash to bounce, any advise?

  • krwalker55 May 18, 2009

thank you. I will try that. It looked more like it was just plastic dash holding it originally and the plastic broke is why it bounces.Got any other ideas if that idea doesnt work?

I had the same thing happen. In my case clips would not work as the plastic part where the screws go through was broken. I went to Home Depot and got some very small metal conduit starps (electric dept.)
I then removed the broken plastic pieces and then used these to put the screws through. They will sit up against the top of the hole and hold the dash in place. Sounds crud, maybe, but my interior is grey and you can hardly tell they are there.MIght be different on an interior of a different color.
But worked for me

If it's bolts that are broke you can get some E-Z outs that you can drill into the broken screws to get the screws out. These are used for broken bolts in your engine but you can get extractors to help take out almost any size of bolt. You can also ever so carefully chisel off the head of the bolt and try to pull the dash out and then use some vice grips or a smaller socket to pull out the damaged bolt heads. I wish you the best of luck.

Ok I would check an autoparts store for the c clips or you can fabricate the clips. A piece of sheet metal 2 inches long by 1 inch wide bend in two and drill a hole through both of the pieces of metal. This is a good substitute for the c clip. A junkyard with your year and make and model of truck would have your clips as well.

How do I remove the plastic part of the dashboard around the defroster vent?

after you remove the main dash there are 4-5 bolts across the top of dash that hold the front dash piece in . and where the dash fits by the windshield are plastic tabs that slide into metal sleeves. When you remove bolts you have to pull dash away from window with a little force as those metal fasteners are very grippy. be very careful not to get pissed and impatient as you do not want to break the plastic tabs that hold dash down. Thank god i only broke one as there is 4 and any more broke would be a rattle noise probably . take your time and dont break things, you will be glad you did

1994 Chevy Suburban Gear slippage

I have had that feeling in my 95 Blazer and it turned out to be a $15 fix. It was the U-joint. Crawl under there and wrap your hands around the drive shaft. Rotate it back and forth. If there is a lot of slop, then it is the U-joint.

I can't find the rear ac expansion valve on my 95 chevy suburban?

Remove two trim panels from just inside back window and just inside rear side door passenger side. They run down from the head liner. Remove seat belt bolt ( TORX HEAD ) also. Remove lower half of trim from just inside rear side door. You should see screws holding weel cover in place. The top under glass just lifts up slightly to remove entire cover. Just a few more screws and you can hinge the top cover of the duct and fan. You will now see the top half of the rear condenser and if you look down beside it you will see the expansion valve. This about as close as you will get to changing the valve though because the freon lines running to the condenser will be stuck so solidly you would have to destroy the lines on either side of the nut to seperate them. You cannot reach the valve without lifting the condenser from its tray and you cannot lift the condenser without removing the lines from it!!! Good luck!!!

How to replace heater core on a 1989 Chev. 1500 (350)

Start by draining the coolant, disconnect dash board wiring harness from pcm behind kick panels, disconnect eye shaft, unbolt dashboard and remove dash. (Remember to tape steering wheel in place as it might have a clock spring). You might have to remove some trim panel on top of dash or cluster from dashboard to gain access to retaing bolts, disconnect heater hoses from heater core in engine compartment and remove heater core, reverse install.
