Question about 1983 Cadillac Eldorado

No power hesitation

I have a 1982 cad eldorado with 4100 car starts fine idles fine when you try to accelleate car bogs and almost stalls and has no power when rpm's do come up has already had new filters checked are ok

    filter is new car has been in storage for some time now tried injector cleaners and fresh gas also no sign of water or other contamants

    sounds kind of odd hard to tell for sure because of leak are you thinking maybe cat converter bad. also I now have check engine light can you tell me how to get codes out of it? thanks

    checked codes came up with 15 30 and 52 also would bad vacum pump cause this kind of problem pump is noisey and it had a very stiff brake pedal when i checked car out this morning

Did you replace the fuel filter ? There is NO WAY TO CHECK a fuel filter. Because fuel comes out of the feed side of the filter does not mean its not clogged. It could restrict under pressure. I say , start by REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER. There is also a screen in the tank attached to the pick-up. It also gets clogged at times. Hope this helps.

    To get the codes, push the OFF and WARM buttons TOGETHER, hold 2 sec and release . Write down the numbers as they appear. Now some codes may be stored for a long time and never cleared. You can CLEAR the codes by pushing the OFF and HI buttons the same way and hold till 00. NOW, when you start the car, any codes retrieved WILL pertain to current events. A RESTRICTED exhaust system such as a clogged cat, will sound that way, AND show the same symptoms you're describing. Keep me posted

    15 is a COOLANT SENSOR fault, 30 is a ISC motor fault ( idle speed control ) 52 is a BATTERY disconnect or loss of power. Did you disconnect the battery ? The coolant sensor should be replaced.

1982 JEEP HESITATES WHILE DRIVING AND DIES


2 things. come to mind.
i check the distributor advance works to spec with my timing light (strobe)
if that is ok, its a carb issue.

carbs fail for many reasons, (mostly gummed up inside)
we clean them. that fixes them. (with a kit)
I only have this for symptoms, and is not good.
MAJOR HESITATION AND STALLING OCCURS
does the engine have full power up any hill wide open throttle
is the Hesitation only a short time then catches up.
The carb (not stated P/N or brand) has jets, the if gummed up
will cause lean running.
so will any power valve jet.
ever tune it up. new spark pats, rotor all the way to spark plugs.
bad spark , loves to fail under load, that is its , magic.
carb>
  1. low float bowl levels.
  2. low fuel pressure causing above,
  3. bad float valve , sticks closed and starts bowl of fuel, causing #1
  4. Gummed up jets.
  5. Gummed up emulsion tubes in carb body.
  6. Choke stuck on, causing flooding,
  7. Choke dead causing hard starts . (stuck open)
  8. power valve clogged.
  9. Highspeed accelerator pump bad, causing only sight hesitation.

my guess? based on 1 word "stall" its #1 to 3 or 6.
black spark plug tips would be #6

or if black sparks, the float valve is stuck open flooding engine and stalling.

we can go for days on carbs. but will not.

Engine loses power and stalls


try adjusting the throttle position switch very hard to adjust right car will hesitate , not idle properly and hesitate when accellerating if not adjusted properly.

The cooling system is designed to opperate at 220 to 225 deg farenheight. it sounds like it is doing fine. The fan will come on at about 220.

Engine bogs and stalls


Check the air filter hose. My '99 Protege was idling rough and would sometimes shut off. The air filter hose was cracked half way around. I replaced it (easy just loosen two hose clamps and pull out the sensor) and the car is running fine.

95 cadillac eldorado engine stalls rough idle check engine light is on


I have a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado and every time i start it the car has rough Idle and the Idle fluctuate's. I also can feel it in the gas pedal when the car is doing this I tried replacing the throttle body sensor but it still does it I also was told it was the Idle error sensor. So instead of spending the unecessary money again I thought I would go online and see if anyone could help me with this problem.
