On 84 porsche 944 can the flywheel be spin around to ot without the camshaft spining since the camshaft is set to tdc.

crank shafts are set to tdc cam shafts are set for valve timing
if the crank shaft is turning but the cam shaft is not then the timing belt/chain has broken

do you have a timing light ? set engine to top dead centre by taking plugs out turn engine with a spanner at crank shaft end until cyl 1 is at top look at cam shaft mark should be just of centre of top

Cranks over. But wont start.

Pull the injectors and have them tested for electronic continuity and spray pattern as the needle may be rusted up or the coils in the injectors corroded away for the long period of no use. Regardless of what engine you have if you have spark at the correct time --compression --fuel then you must have go in the engine . Continuing to run will depend on the make and design as the other variables come into play.

What is the before top dead centre mark for porsche 944

on the top of your crank shaft behind the small plate and your bottom of flywheel remove front cover and turn engine over and you see the diamond mark on the crank and you should see the markings on the flywheel where the crank sensors are plus the marking point on the bottom of the clutch housing if all three ar line up properly youe timing should be good plus make sure your balance shaft roller are set also?

Hi Protein,
Your best course of action would be to have a scan carried out. I believe the problem is either to do with the crank or cam shaft sensors.

I have a check engine light code;p0017 p0016 and i change crankchaft sensor and 2 camshaft sensor .cayenne 3.2 2004

Honstly im not fromilar with porche engines but i have seen these two codes together along with P1345. The problem has to do with the correlation of the signals from the cam and crank sensors. Once again i don't know what this set up has or dosn't have but if it has a distubtor shaft check for exess movement in the shaft with the cap off if you can turn the rotor from side to side to far then the signal from the cam and crank gets distorted . If you have coil packs im not sure how to test it but the problem is still the same a signal distortion Hope this is of some help i usely don't answer questions that im not sure of but iv'e seen this before and its a tough one to track down

I`ve a 1986 porsche 944 turbo.i`ve replaced both crankshaft sensors,dissy cap and DME relay as it would not the car does start but not very well,chucking out black smoke,hesitates when you press...

to me could be a gasket problem if you are blowing smoke when applying gas. just a suggestion. have you checked the oil? to see if milky? keep me informed please. Thanks.

Computer shown problem with crank shaft sensor

The first thing you should do is remove your new crank shaft sensor and clean the mount point with a degreaser and your connectors with contact cleaner and a wire brush. Once you do this you should put your crank shaft sensor back in and see if it works if not i would suggest bring it back to the shop you got it and trying to have them replace it because more then likely if it still dose not work you may have gotten a bad censer out of the box.

1985 944 porsche speedometer stop working

There is a gear in the speedo that breaks. This is plastic gear on a metal shaft. The last fix I did was to remove speedo and open it up. I super glued the cracked gear to the shaft because I was unable to find a new one. It worked again with no future problems. I hope this helps.
