Question about 1994 Nissan Pathfinder

1 Answer

I go to start the car, the lights go on, but it doesn't start-- just clicks. I've replaced the starter and the ignition switch. When I replaced the relay switch, it worked fine for about 10 months, but now it's doing the same thing. I've taken it to various mechanics, and they are all stumped! Other than that, the car's been perfect at 191K miles.

It sounds like a poor ground. Alyhough I'm sure they ck'd it, Check both ends of the ground cable. Even loosening to ensure good contact on retighten. Same with positive cable. Ground cable is more important.Good luck. If headlights go out when you only get a click, and stay out , you know its a bad connection. If they just dim , the battery has issues

My honda 1991 crx model hf will not start. when I turn on switch starter does not engage so engine does not even try to turn over. lights, horns, and fans are strong so I believe it not to be battery...

To check if it is the ignition switch remove the small wire from the starter and place a multimeter on the wire to earth you will have 12v dc when you put the switch in the start position IF this is so remove the starter as it will be either the starter solenoid or a s/ motor fault

1988 Trans Am will not start when ignition is turned all the way.

Take a test light to the small wire on the starter and have someone turn it to the start position. If the light lights up and the engine doesn't turn over, I would suspect the starter itself. If the test light doesn't light, try it in neutral and repeat test. If it still doesn't light up, it may be the PRNDL switch or the ignition switch itself.

Checked grounds? remove all connectors and clean them. Make sure you have 12V coming from the ignition switch to the solenoid. Does the motor turn over by hand?

Won't start

Switch on head lights or cabin light. If they doesn't come on or is weak, the battery is flat. Ensure that you switch off the lights.
With ignition switched on, assuming the lights on the instrument panel cames on and your immobiliser is deactivated, turn ignition to start. You should hear the solenoid at the starter making a click sound. If not, the battery is flat or the starter solenoid is faulty. If it does make a click sound, the battery could be too low to turn the starter or the starter is faulty. Assuming the immobiliser is working correctly, and the starter tries to turn the engine but it doesn't want to turn, the gasket could be blown and the cylinder filled with water, or the engine could be seized.
Hope it is not the last case. MarioCpt

My 2007 corolla won't start. When I turn the key in the ignition the starter makes a rapid clicking noise. I?ve tried putting the car in neutral and starting it that way, but had no luck. I?ve also tried...

1st check the main cable to the starter make sure it is clean and tight, disconnect battery first, after that there should be a small wire going to the starter jump that small connector to the main battery cable on the starter (IGNITION OFF) if it cranks you have a wiring or ignition switch problem if not Starter time just make sure you get a very good quality starter some cheap and even lifetime starters are so poorly made that even after you replace them you still have a problem only a bad noise coming from the new starter you just put in.

Won't run

There are several no cost things you can look at for starting the engine;

) Is an anti-thief system killing the system ?
) Try giving the solenoid on the starter a few sharp hits. Sometime the solenoid sticks. If this works you would still have to replace the starter. It will only work a few times.
) neutral safety switch - This switch on the transmission prevents starting in gear. Try PARK or NEUTRAL.
) starter relay - this is the relay to transfer power to the starter. When you turn the ignition it clicks on to transfer power to the starter. I think it may be located under the hood.
) fusible link - This is essentially a fuse that limits the maximum current to protect the circuit. Believe to be under the hood. They can get corroded or burn out. Your lights will work but the starter will not.

I believe it will be one of above but of course as suggested you can take it to a repair shop.
