SOURCE: vehicle failed emissions testing

You need to replace the intake upper plenum gaskets. There is two pieces, a top cover with one big silicone o-ring gasket and a lower half with six smaller silicone o-rings for the individual intake ports. You can buy these as a set, just for this job. Start this job by removing the wiper blades, then release all the screws, (including the ones that support the wiper motor), that hold that big black plastic valence at the back of the engine compartment. Pull that out of the way, you will have to pull the windshield washer hose through it, just disconnect it on the engine side, now you have access to the plenum. It's a pretty easy job now to remove and replace both halves, just a bunch of 8mm screws hold it all together. Take notes or digital pics along the way so you can pop it all back together. My only caution would be; when you have it apart, do not drop anything in the intake port! I always stuff kleenex in these while I'm working in case something slips out of my hands. Also, don't over tighten, it's all plastic. If you don't want to do it yourself, a shop should charge about an hour and a half, plus the codes must be reset and the van driven until all the monitors are ready.

What does code P0174 and P0304 mean

PO304--is # 3 cylinder misfiring
PO174---is a lean O2 Sensor Code on bank 2,
from the misfire

So you find the cause, of the ignition misfire, and NO,
it is not spark plugs, wires and a long list of parts, that
never fail.

It is a bad ignition coil or igntion module, which ever applies.

Error codes PO171, PO174 on 6.0 2004 silverado, what are they?

P0171 means: System too lean (Bank 1) P0174 means: System too lean (Bank 2). Sounds like your injectors are not getting enough fuel.

2003 Ford Ranger 4x4 extended cab- diagnostics checked and got these codes- P0171, P0174, P0300, P0316. Can you tell me what they mean?

P0171------ system too lean bank#1
Po174------ system too lean bank#2
For these 2 codes, try cleaning the maf sensor (mass air flow), that is mounted in the big black hose that goes from the air filter housing to the throttle plate, if it is dirty, that will cause those 02 sensors to send a signal to the computor to lean the air fuel mixture. If cleaning it doesn't work, the sensors will probably need changing.
P0300---- Random/multiple cylinder misfire
P0316---- Cylinder misfire at start up---- first 100 revolutions.
On those 2 codes, you have to do some testing to find out why there is a misfire.
Possible causes:
dirty/malfunctioning injectors
weak coil pack
fowling spark plugs/wires
Low fuel pressure

Why is my 1997 expedition showing a misfire on number 2 cylinder OBD code PO302. Also I am getting code readings PO174 andPO171 system to lean on Bank 1and 2

PO302 is being a misfire, could mean the plug is bad or the coil is bad for that cylinder. Which can give you the misfire reading and the system to lean codes. Check the #2 coil for firing.
