No elecric power (gauges die?) or no engine power.?
jumper cables got hot. and not results, no crank?

lets work that. too hot
Walfart cables? tiny cables do that. (200 amps it is)
hooked them up backwards , OMG, that invites a nice acid bath
or far far worse.. really?

the walfart cables are for like starting a smart car or a 1liter golf cart.
bet the bigones. 8 gage minimum smaller is better.
the more you spend the better they are, copper is not cheap.

6 is best if doing V8s or in cold weather.

06 4.0 v6 tundra won't start tried jumping it it just clicks once I unplugged the cables no power?

jumped with other car running?
if it clicks,
we next hot wire the starter solenoid,
if it clicks now with good battery (or running jump), it's a
1: bad starter. or 2: seized engine (turn by hand? yet)
if it cranks fast now hot wired, the KEY line is dead
ask how to fix either.

Electical failure

What you have written seems strange. I understand that the vehicle stopped with ALL ELECTRICAL... This is a broke wire, Grounded to the Chassis, When you tried to Jump Start it, WHAT got HOT? Did you cross the Leads? I would be looking at the Wiring for where the Positive is now grounding out.

Clean the battery cables, you must have a bad connection, use baking soda in a hot water solution and soak the cable ends and then wire brush and clean the opening with a battery cable cleaning tool available from any parts store for about $2.00

Its likely your starter is bad and drawing too much power
from your battery to start .
Have advance auto check the amperage draw of the
starter while cranking , its free.

Jumped started the HHR and power steering went out

Did you attach the jumper cables to the "box" under the hood that looks like a battery? Both posts are hot. You probably blew the fuse. This car almost mandates you usee the proper procedure to connect jumper cables, i.e. negative cable to the motor block.

Where to connect jumping cables on the battery

Dead car --- Red to + ... Black to -

Hot car --- Red to + ... Black to any metal car part away from the battery. Let the hot car charge the battery for a couple minutes before you try it. Try it. IMPORTANT: DISCONNECT THE HOT CAR BLACK JUMPER FIRST, then take the black off the dead car. Then disconnect the dead car red and then the other end on the hot car.

My 2002 gran am will not start. I got a jump and it started, let it run for 20 minutes, and the next day the same thing happened. When I turn the ignition the car sounds like its getting enough power, but...

Not enough power from battery (bad connection).
Disconnect each battery cable and clean cable clamps and battery posts. The dirty stuff is a "ressistor" and gets hot; battery looses starting amperage.
It should start up ok. No additional things need to be done for this.
