Question about Toyota 4Runner

Whining in rear end 2007 toyota 4 runner

My wife's 4 runner started making a whining noise after we had the tires and rear brakes replaced about 6 months ago. We thought it was the new tires but it isn't getting better only worse. I have checked the oil in the differential, all good. Jacked the truck up, put it in gear and the noise is in the rear end. I think I'm right anyway. Any ideas or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks

Wheel bearing is the most likely cause. Prob a 1.5-2 hour labor rate job in the shop.

2010 endeavor making whining noise from rear end at any speed. It is a front wheel drive. Put on new tires, still doing it.

If the sound gets higher pitched with higher speed, you may have a bad wheel bearings. If the whining stays constant, there may be something rubbing like the brake backing plate (especially on drum brakes). Try putting your hand near the backing plate after you drive it a bit. The friction from rubbing will make it hot.

My 4 runner suddenly started steering hard what might be causing this

You either have a failing power steering hydraulic pump or the steering rack and pinion unit has a seal leak and needs to be replaced. Try installing a can of power steering sealer from an auto parts store it may help.

Whining noise from passenger front wheel had wheel bearing replaced could it be gearbox

Wierd Wheel Noises:

New bearing is actually good? Take wheel off of the ground, vehicle in neutral and rotate the wheel by hand and see that there are no problems with the bearing, CV Axle, or the brakes. And put some pressure on the bearing as much as you can to make sure it is not binding itself.

More than one bearing has been damaged during installation. I now own a 10 ton press and keep it in my basement for the next time I have to replace my bearings. Thank goodness I always buy in pairs.

Here's to hoping you just identified your problem.

If not, then: Have someone turn the wheel in both directions while watching the CV Axle at both ends, to make sure it isn't the problem.

One more issue: Swap your tires front to rear, and rear to front, and drive to see if your noise changed locations, indicating a tire or wheel problem.

If everything you just checked is working properly, then you know what's next.

Good luck !

We experience a lot of road noise in our 2007 RX 350. Very loud, rear passengers complain particularly. We put on new top of the line Toyota tires 235/55R 18's. Still emits a high pitched roaring from...

I had the same problem with my 2007 RX350. Had the tires replaced under warranty because of this roaring noise and still had the same problem. Replaced the original equipment brand tires with a set of new michelins and the noise went away. This was 10,000 miles ago.

Nope, most likely bad tires. I love my yota, spent almost a grand on know it all's looking at the front end and trying to re-ballance bad tires. New tires...drives like brand new.

Sounds like one of the auxillary belts slipping it may just need tightening up. I think the 4-Runner has two belts one large and one for the steering pump
