Will not start ... for a month or better it started having trouble starting would click once when you truned the key and you would have to turn the key several time (some times more than others) and it...

It sounds like you need a new starter. Your armature has few dead spots on it and every time you turn the key it moves just a little until you hit a good spot and then it spins and the car starts

First, car clicked when I turned the key to start it but would not turn over. Some panel lights were on when this happened. Then the whole dash board went blank and there is little indication that there is...

Your battery is dead. Same thing happened in my Grand Prix. (Same company, and similar car in the GM line up as youe DeVille). Try jumping your car, replacing the battery, and/or replacing your alternator, in that order.

Wont start when ignition is turned it just clicks, after about 10attempts it eventually just goes! think it maybe an immobiliser problem but not sure..

not immobilizer. how loud is the click? Is it just one click or click-click-click...? If one little click, may just be the start relay. If loud click, solenoid engages but starter has a dead spot. If many clicks, solenoid is acting up.

Please see my tip at and let me know if you have more questions.

The car does't start

I dont no what model good car you have but the problem you have if the starter just clicks and dosent turn over the engine its Either BATTERY is 50% nogood or the starter motor is poling (shorting inside) or rhe starter bendix isent throughing out or the solenoid is shorting inside OR the engine is siezed up,,,,, But i dont think its the engine so start off with
Turn on headlights ,then turn the key to start Does your lights go out or dim (if yes) jump start from another car ,, if it starts GOOD then battery isent any good,,.
If not and the starter still just clicks or clunks then the starter is faulty BUT before taking it off turn the engine over by hand just a little and try the key again, if no go then take the starter off and away for testing
Let me know how you get on have a goodday Ron
Theres more to check so keep in touch..

Car won't start. 1974, not a 2006

If the motor does not turn over (spin) and all you hear is a click when you turn the key, it has to be something with the starter. It is very possible that the starter has frozen up (meaning the brushes are at a point on the commentator that they are not making the electrical contact needed to spin the starter). If it is just making one click then it is most likely the solenoid on top of the starter. I would replace the starter. If however the motor actually turns over then I would try these steps in this order.
Remove the top of the air cleaner. Either put a little bit of gas or use starting fluid (starting fluid is safer as it evaporates quicker) and put it down the carb then try to start. If it tries to start then you have spark. If it does not change anything then you most likely have no spark. In 1975 they were still using points-type ignitions in FIATS (they switched to electronic-type in 1979, I believe) so make sure that your points are not burnt out and that they are getting electricity. If you are getting spark and it tries to run then I would check for fuel delivery. I had to hook up an electric fuel pump (get one made for carburetors NOT FUEL INJECTION) to get mine to work. If you are feeling adventurous, have a manual transmission, have plenty of flat space to try this, some friends willing to push your car around, and hopefully some experience in push starting a car, then you could try pouring a little gas down the carb and then trying to push start it. To accomplish this you would need to be sitting behind the wheel and have the ignition turned to the on position. Have someone pour a little gas down the carb. Then have your friends push you with the car in neutral. When they get a little momentum they let go of the car, you push in the clutch, shift the car into 1st and then quickly release the clutch. If done correctly this will turn the motor over. if the car starts then you have a problem with the starter, either wires or bad starter.

I think the starter is going . The car does not turn over and crank like it should it starts to crank then it sounds like a wining noise

You say that the car will only turn over a little buit but not start. Is the car turning over and slowly dying out to nothing or is it just turning over and not starting?

Car will not start makes fast clicking noise

The Starter Solenoid is doing the clicking. The starter Solenoid needs replaced.
Just like the windows and the lights, it is getting power, it is just too weak to run the starter.

1999 toyota rav 4 will click when trying to start but won't start engine

if it clicks one loud time then its maybe the starter. if its several little fast clicks then the battery is just dead enough not to turn the car over
