Sounds like the bands need adjusting and the valve body needs to be cleaned. parts store has a valve body kit but its not for faint hearted. tranny valve jobs must be done in clean organized area.other possibility is the trans-oil cooler inside radiator broke. that'll ruin tranny and cooling system. only link of tranny and heat is at trans-oil cooler in radiator

SOURCE: 2004 dodge interprid transmission gears

Chances are your engine light is on too. Your actually in 2nd right now, this is called limp mode. It's built into your cars computer to avoid catastrophic failure when a sensor or other issue arrises. You should go imediately to your dealer and have them read the codes and provide you with a proper estimate. My best guess at this time would be a speed sensor.

SOURCE: transmission noises from a 2000 dodge caravan 2.4L

normally should take 6-8liters when empty. If it is making those noises keep a tow truck on speed dial.Dodge does not make a very strong transmission.Could be that you just need the bands adjusted but I suspect you either need to rebuild or replace it

SOURCE: transmission want go in gear want move when put in drive

You have to use ATF4 transmission fluid for the dodge caravan. If you changed the fluid and the filter, a quick relearn has to be performed by a technician. It requires a special computer device. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: '89 dodge dakota manual transmission A535 will not

Most likely solution is the gear selector fork in the transmission has broken and is no longer engaging the gears.

Repair requires transmission removal and partial overhaul.

1998 Dodge caravan AWD transmision slips at full throttle

Have you serviced the transmission latley? fluid, filter, band adjustment

Usually under heavy throttle causing the slip is caused by a seal in the pump leaking off hydraulic pressure letting the clutches slip.

Does it slip in all gears or just 1st.?
Does it slip in reverse?
The reason I ask this is because 1st and reverse use different fluid pathways,

also you can take it to a tranny shop and have them check the fluid pressure at the accumlator port to determine what the exact problem is,but my advice is to just drive it easy and make it last as long as you can,a new or rebuild tranny from a dealer would run 2500 or more.

there is a website that you can use to find a replacement transmission

My 2003 dodge caravan whines and when it seems

Hate to tell you this , but sounds like the pump is going in the transmission. First check the fluid level to make sure the fluid is up to full. The fuild and filter need to be replace at 60,000 miles. Clogged transmission filter can restrict the fluid flow into the transmission fluid pump.

You really need to get your transmission serviced. Replace the filter and fluid, and adjust the bands. DO NOT overfill the transmission fluid. If you don't know how to do it, take it to a reputable shop, which pretty much excludes Aamco. If you don't do it soon, you may be spending a big chunk on a transmission rebuild.

I put a rebuild kit in a nv4500.all the gears work fine except fourth gear.i put atf+4 fluid in it could that cause a problem

Castrol Syntorq® LT 75w85w full synthetic gear oil is the only factory approved lubricant for NV4500 transmissions. ATF is for automatic transmissions and approved manual transmissions. Drain and flush with the correct oil as soon as possible or you will be rebuilding again soon. The ATF will just cause the transmission to wear out faster and shift oddly in all the gears, it shouldn't have affected only 4th. I'd take it apart again and see if you missed anything or if something else in the transmission is out of spec.
