Your piston rings are wearing out,gotta remove and replace with new ones,go to your spare parts dealers

check your oil level, color, and smell. My guess is that the low oil pressure light is on because of literal lack of oil to pressurize. Generally when you get that light and a knock it points to major engine repair or replacing the engine. Knocks due to oil pressure can indicate many things from a bad head gasket to a stretched rod or blown piston rings. Check your coolant reservoir for signs of oil entering the cooling system as it will float on top of the coolant. By the sound of it it needs major mechanical repairs

balance shafts are in the block ,not the top end
could be cam shaft bearings or a failing cam lobe
could be a cam advance servo unit that is faulty at rpm and knocking from low oil pressure supply

Lower end knock


Worn bearing caused by a defective oil pump or low pressure due to leakage around the worn bearings. Either way you need to overhaul the engine.

I have the same car and when she got around 200,000 i had to start running a heavier grade of motor oil. If you have high mileage then the cam support bearings, crankshaft support bearings have excessive oil clearance. Listen to the knock with the hood open. If the sound is a deep low tone knock then it is the lower end of the engine. If the knock is high pitched like a tic tic sound it is usually in the top end. Lower end is where the crankshaft and pistion are located and the top end is where the valves and camshafts are located in that engine. You can take a broom stick and probe around the engine (careful not to touch moving parts) and put it to youe ear with a little presure and you can hear different sections of the engine to see where the knock is the loudest. Kinda like a doctors stefascope. If it is more like a grinding noise it could be a tensioner pulley, idler pulley, alternator bearing, a/c compressor clutch.

might be the valves have been damaged running without oil
- or the crankshaft / camshaft / main bearings
most probably you have to let the engine be rebuilt by a mechanic

No oil pressure and a knocking that got


Sounds like the oil pump intermediate shaft might have slipped out of place when the distributor was removed and replaced. The intermediate shaft is held to the oil pump by a nylon sleeve that can and sometimes does break, which will allow it to slip out of place. Pull the distributor back out and look down the hole with a flashlight, you should see the top of the shaft, it looks like the head of a regular flat tip screw, if you do not see this the shaft is out of place and the only fix is to remove the oil pan and reinstall it. As far as engine damage, if you only ran the engine for a short time and at low rpms you might be alright, if you drove it down the road or ran it at high rpms then there is probably damage to the bearings, and the knock will not go away.

If you ran low on oil and ran hot the news is probably not good. If the knock is there when you tap off but goes when you accellerate that is a big end bearing. If that lets go you will be looking at an engine replacement so it needs urgent attention. If it is a lighter knock coming from higher up in the engine it could be a gudgeon pin bearing and whilst it will need replacing it is not as urgent as the big end. For the next time the way to get out of a slippery mess is to let the clutch out slowly and give the engine as few revs as possible to allow the tyres to grip. The moment they start spinning you have lost the plot and you need to start over again.You can even try turning the steering a little to get grip on the sides of the gully.

Toyota supra turbo ran low on oil it locked up for a second


the chances are you have done the shell bearings on the cranck shat in or the big ends if it is a loud knocking noise or possibly the turbo (is their any smoke from engine bluey in colour if this is so engine has been damaged it could also be the camshaft too without hearing it it could be anything )hope i have helped you
