Question about 2000 Toyota Camry

2000 Toyota Camry LE Cannot turn key in ignition to start car

The keys (both key that opens all locks and the valet key) will not turn in the ignition. It only moves about 1/4 inch. Also, in order to get the steering wheel to lock, it is necessary to really pull the wheel a great deal and turn the tires. It does not lock automatically if the wheel is turned just a bit. I have no idea if this is related to the key turning in the ignition to start the car.Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I need guidance. Thanks

We have a 1994 Geo Tracker. The key will not turn in the ignition. My wife said she can get the steering wheel to lock and unlock. But says that when she goes to turn it now she hears something sound like it is moving around in there. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on what it maybe or how to fix it?

It sounds like your ignition lock cylinder has a problem. These can be replaced and keyed to match you present key by a locksmith. Call a locksmith for a estimate.

Valet key will not open door or trunk

not sure about the door... but a valet key is just that. it should allow a 'valet', person other than you, to drive your car without having access to any storage areas. therefore you can lock valuables in the trunk. the system should also disable any electronic trunk switches with that key in the ignition.

Do you know why my key wouldnt turn my switch my switch was locked in my 2000 toyota camry solaro

Was your steering column turned, or possibly wedged against a curb or other obstacle? At times when that column is locked or wedged, you can't turn the ignition key. Just forcefully turn your steering wheel one way or the other & hold it there, the ignition assembly should unlock, and you should be able to turn the key.

Charged battery on 1997 Toyota Camry now immobilizer will not lock doors and car will not start

Here is the reset procedure:
1. Have the Valet Button in the OUT position. ( It is located on the dash panel left of the steering column)
2. Connect the battery - the alarm will sound.
3. Put the key in the ignition and turn to the ON position,
4. Push the Valet Button to the IN position.
The alarm will be reset, and the Valet Button will glow red.

Move the Valet Button to the OUT position again.
Repeat steps 3 & 4 and the Valet Button will become unlighted.
The car will start and everything will be fine.

I have a 1997 Toyota Camry Le. I need to make a copy of the car key. is that key electronic or just regular key. if the key can open the car door, will it turn the car on too? Thank you

the key is just a regular key and does not have a chip in it...as long as someone has not had to change the door lock or key cylinder in the ignition because the part has failed then the same key should open the door and start the car....remember the car when new comes with a key code tag with the keys and 2 master keys and a valet key.....the difference in the keys are the master will open all doors and trunk and start the car and the valet will open the doors and start the car only....if the key is worn real bad it does cause problems and if you carry a lot of keys on your key ring over time it will wear out the ignition key cylinder....if you do not have the key code you can go to the deraler and they can cut you one by the code.....all you need to do is show them that you are the owner and the vin number......i hope that this info will help you and if you need any more info let me know and also you can do me a favor by letting me and fixya know if i was able to help you in anyway and a comment and a thumbs up would be appreciated......thanks and good luck and have a blessed day......

Inside trunk release won't open trunk on 2002 Camry. Lock will not turn with master key. Remote trunk opener will open trunk.

1. Open trunk
2. Place latch in lock position
3. Pull inside trunk release to see what isn't moving
4. If trunk key won't turn, the key may be worn out and need to be replaced

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry , and I cant get the locks open or the ignition started immediately. I have to stick the key in either of these a number of times before it unlocks the doors, or the car starts....

Try spraying some WD-40 or similar in key slots & work the key in & out after to see if it helps. Do you have another key you can try to see if it's the key?

Side door lock on 2000 VW Beetle

the dealer gave you a ignition key, instead of valet key.
valet key should open the driver door and ignition. nothing else. if the key can't ope the door. try the trunk. if it open the trunk, the it is a wrong key.
