How do I connect tranny to radiator coolant lines monte carlo

Lines mixed up when repairing/replacing need to know how to reconnect them - inlets and outlets 1995 chevy monte carlo LS 3.1

The lower line off the transmission will connect to the lower radiator fitting and the upper transmission to the upper radiator.

There is a bunch of stuff that you must remove to get the radiator out.

You must remove:
> Engine strut mounts
> Throttle body air inlet duct and air cleaner assembly
> The front fender upper diagonal braces
> Engine cooling fan and shroud assembly
> Transmission cooler lines
> Radiator upper brackets
> Radiator low coolant module
> Upper radiator (inlet) hose
> Lower radiator (outlet) hose

Then the radiator will come up and out.

2004 monte carlo ss running hot on start up. Replaced thermostat and radiator cap.


CHECK COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG IF EMPTY ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT FULL COLD MARK.LONG AS COOLANT LEVEL OVERFLOW EMPTY KEEP COOLANT AT COLD FULL MARK.IF COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG YOUR RADIATOR COOLANT LEVEL LOW.

Transmission oil in the radiator


If the radiator has tranny fluid mixed in with the coolant, then you have an internal tranny cooler leak. At the one side of the tranny, in the saddle tank, there is a tube. This tube allows hot tranny fluid to enter the rad and be cooled before returning to the transmission. It should be totally isolated and submerged in the coolant tank. Occasionally they can leak, and the two fluids will mix. You will need a new rad to repair the problem. It would also be recommended to have the tranny fluid and the coolant flushed after wards. Oil of any kind does not mix well with coolant, and could cause future damage to the tranny more so than the engine.

The transmission and engine are there own entities. Unfortuantly the radiator in some vehicles cool the tranny fluid. Its possable when the coolant lines were disconnected from the transmission or from the radiator, the seal was broken on the radiator where the line goes in from the radiator, so you wont see it because its internal. This will allow trans fluid to enter into the radiator. Be careful with trans fluid mixed with the coolant may cause engine damage. Your solution to the problem if this is infact the source would mean replacing the radiator, if you do this be sure to flush the coolant system to rid trans fluid.

I have a 2001 monte carlo. there is oil in my radiator. does anyone know the problem could be with my car? my car runs fine.


Are you sure it is oil and not just old corroded dex cool? Just asking because about the only way to get oil in the radiator is through a bad head gasket or cracked head which will usually cause the vehicle to run poorly. My 2005 chevy monte calro has been overheating it has hot coolant on dash but fluids are cold, goes off when applied gas hard to get fluids pumping, heater doesn't work and recently replaced radiator and...


Check the thermostat, if it isn't opening when engine warms up, the coolant in the engine will overheat and make pressure in the cooling system but the fluid in the radiator will still be cold.

How to change Radiator in 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Radiator


Hello, here are the instructions for rad replacement

  • Remove air cleaner assembly and the throttle body air inlet duct. .
  • Drain the coolant.
  • ).
  • Remove the engine strut brace bolts from the upper tie bar and rotate the struts and braces rearward. Refer to one of the following:
  • • Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.1L • Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L
  • Remove the electric cooling fans.
  • Remove the radiator bracket bolts and the radiator brackets.
  • Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the hose clamp at the radiator inlet hose.
  • Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  • Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the hose clamp at the radiator outlet hose.
  • Disconnect the radiator out let hose from the radiator.
  • Remove the coolant level module.
  • Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the radiator. Refer to one of the following:
  • • Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T60-E • Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  • Remove the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the retainer at the bottom of the radiator.

    your radiator has another little radiator inside the main radiator this is called transmission cooler seems to be than the cooler has a hole or is broken the main reason for this to happend is becasue the antifreeze or coolant is not been serviced at least every 50k miles or when you mix wo diferent coolants like diferent colors they get contaminated and create acids and start corrosion in the coolant system have the radiator replaced and flush the cooling system wiht lost of water then add only the designated antifreeze on greeen coolant 50/50 mix they sell it allready mix but if you but the one is not mix mix it with 50/50 coolant and destilated water but i recomend to buy 50/50/ green coolant
