Is there an easy way to remove the radiator

    easy ha. you have to drain all the fluid and disconnect all the hoses making sure to label were they go back on. you may have to remove the fan shroud and fan also

Pulled top cross bracket disconnected hoses and pulled radiator out and back flush it, while I had radiator out I installed new water pump.

2006 Chevy trail blazer. Keeps getting hot. Anti-freeze is full, overflow container is half full. Every time I turn it off can hear fluid in radiator boiling and bubbling?


Pam are you sure it's boiling? If the Antifreeze is boiling I'd think you'd see steam coming out of your reservoir as the water expands into the reservoir, but you didn't say you see anything like that.
Of course engines get hot, that's why we have the cooling systems but it doesn't sound like it's "boiling" to me with no signs of visible steam unless your antifreeze level is really low?

If it's really boiling, and you antifreeze level is good, then your reservoir should be getting filled up with expanded hot water that goes into it to catch it when it expands.

If the water isn't going into the reservoir, then maybe your antifreeze level in the radiator is too low and you need to add antifreeze?

Best to fill the radiator with the engine cooled down. If you ever have to open the radiator when it's hot, NEVER open it with your bare hand as you could get scolded with boiling water. Instead use a big thick towel to remove the radiator cap off a hot engine. Again, if you can, just wait until the engine cools then open the radiator cap.

With the engine cool, you can fill the radiator with a 50/50 antifreeze mix. The 50/50 mix come premixed 50 percent water, and 50 percent antifreeze. So you can throw that stuff straight into the radiator.

Non mixed antifreeze needs to be mixed 50/50. Some people use 50 percent distilled water when they mix it because distilled water doesn't have the minerals in it that may get stuck in your radiator. That's being a bit picky about it though. Tap water works fine in a pinch. The other 50 percent is antifreeze. You can mix it right in the radiator too, put in a measured amount of the antifreeze, followed by the same measured amount of water. The water pump will mix it all together when you run the engine.

Put the cap back on and run the engine and if/when the water "boils" it should go into your reservoir. If it does boil in go in the reservoir then yes...your engine is getting hot and the antifreeze is boiling.

When the antifreeze boils, it's probably because your thermostat is stuck closed. That means the thermostat isn't letting water circulate through the radiator to get cooled. Thermostats are cheap...no more than $30 I'd say for most cars. Changing them is pretty easy too as they are usually right at the top of the engine. A mechanic may charge $100 to change it....but it's an easy job on most vehicles requiring just a couple sockets/socket wrench.

top hose should be hot, all water from engine goes through upper hose, then radiator to cool and out lower hose.

Engine overheating


check for water coolant circulation. either you might have a clogged radiator or faulty water pump. to check the radiator after you run the engine for a while switch it off and try to find an easy access to radiator vents and touch all surface to see whether is all ho or if is some,then you remove it and send it for cleaning. as regards water pump,take the thermostat out put water in and start the engine follow the water circulation when you rev.if it rotates the water pump is working if is steady and coming upwards to over flow then the water pump is faulty. Also the other possibility is the matrix to be clogged..

Flush engine.
EXTERNAL CRACKS
1 Run engine until hot,drain off enough coolant to remove thermostat.
2 Remove thermostat.
3 Mix contents of can thoughoughly! and pour contents into thermostat opening.
4 Replace thermostat cover.& fill radiator with hot water,replace radiator cap.
5 Run engine at a fast idle for 15 mins,dont allow to boil.Top up if necessary.
6 Leave Wondarweld in system for 2-3 days then drain off,flush system replace thermostat and refill.
HAIRLINE CRACKS
1 MIX thoroughly and pour into cold engine (radiator if it has a cap)
2 Run engine until hot.
3 Allow engine to cool then run again until hot.
4 Follow procedure 6 above.
INTERNAL CRACKS
1 Follow external crack instructions except after pouring Wondarweld into engine remove spark plug from
affected cylinder and run engine for 20 mins. If more than one cylinder affected run for 5 minute intervals.
2 Allow engine to cool then drain cooling system and refill with clean water.
3 Drain sump & flush,refill with fresh oil.
Note:- 1/2 pint of Wondarweld for every 6 pints of water,DO NOT add antifreeze for at least 3 days after process.

The temperature off and on runs hot and at other times is seems normal. i added coolant and let the engine get hot and could not replicate the problem after that. can't see that there is anything on...


Let the vehicle cool off completely, then remove the radiator/surge tank cap and fill it to the indicated full level. Leaving the cap off, start the engine and allow it to run until the temp gauge reaches normal, about 10 to 15 minutes. Place the heater on high, observe to see that you have good interior heat, and top off the radiator/surge tank. Reinstall the cap and drive it, observing the temp gauge. If it is still not right, stop and squeeze the top radiator hose-it should be difficult, if not impossible to calopse, and hot. If it is easy to calopse, you have an internal, or external leak, or your cap is not holding pressure.

Try with the small stuff first. Replace the thermostat. Before you do that, you should flush and refill your system with just water after the flush process. The bottle of solution that you put into your radiator to flush it and clean it has instructions, follow those. Then let the car cool down and drain the system and refill it with fresh water only. Run this water for a bit and then do it once more. Once cooled back down , replace thermostat and replace the 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water.
Check engine oil level as well, low oil will overheat engines quickly.

The heater does not blow hot air just cold air all vent controls work.if running air conditioning can control temp with the hot cold control


The first thing to check is the coolant (antifreeze) level in your radiator. If this level is too low it could cause your heater not to blow hot air. Check this when the engine is cold by removing the radiator cap. Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. If you do, you run the risk of getting scalded by hot water and steam that can shoot out the top of the radiator. The radiator should be completely full. If it's not, fill it up with a 50/50 solution of antifreeze and water. Also make sure the radiator overflow tank is filled up to the full mark. This is usually about halfway up the tank.
If your coolant level is ok I suspect you may need to replace the thermostat. It may be sticking shut and not letting hot water get to your heater core, or it may be sticking open and preventing your engine from reaching its normal hot operating temperature. A thermostat is relatively inexpensive and usually easy to replace. Just make sure you follow the instructions and put it in facing the right direction. If the thermostat is ok then you may have a blockage in your heater core. Replacing a heater core can be a difficult job on some car. If this is your problem I recommend taking the car into a garage to have the repair done. I hope this helps you out.

No heat


if you replaced the thermostat, you have an air bubble trapped in the engine. So, you don't have any coolant running through the heater core, therefore no heat.
sometimes hard to "burp" air bubble. Try this. Park park facing uphill and jack up front of car too. You want to get radiator opening higher than top of engine. Then remvoe radiator cap (cold engine), fill radiator, then fill coolant reservoir to full point. Install radiator cap but leave it loose so air can escape. Start engine until upper radiator hose going into radiator is hot. This should burp air. Repeat a few times while adding coolant mix (50/50 antifreeze) to keep radiator full. Be careful not to remove radiator cap when engine is hot.
lwt us know how ou make out. There is a more complicated procedure but you need tools and knowledge of where air bleed is on top of engine
