Assuming it is doing this kick on and kick off more than 'normal', I'd be concerned about coolant level. If the coolant level is low, the unit may still cool, but it is working hard to get the job done.

The older the unit, the more pronounced this might be.

good luck

Compressor and fans do not turn on until rev engine

I passed this question the first time I read it, so I will take a stab at it now.
The fans don't come on until the compressor has pumped the freon pressure up to say 150 or 200 psi. And the compressor clutch has to have voltage to engage the clutch.
I wonder if the clutch is going and needs 14 volts instead of 12 to engage ? Or the relay that powers the clutch ?
Speeding up the engine would increase voltage from the alternator.
This is assuming the serpentine belt is tight and everything else is working correctly.
I think I would swap the relay with another and put a meter on that circuit to the ac clutch to see what it takes to engage it.

Ac clutch kicks on and off, is there a thermal coupler?

There is a temperature control in an AC system and the compressor kicks out when the selected temperature is reached in the vehicle, it kicks on again to maintain the preset temperature.. There is also a pressure switch in the system that cuts out the compressor if the gas/lubricant in the AC is low and continued use of the compressor may damage the component.

Groaning Noise While AC is on

this sounds like the AC compressor is failing, the engine idles slower in drive so noise is more apparent. you are likely going to need to replace it soon.

My 1994 honda civic wont turn on my a/c compresor. when i switch on the a/c the idle jumps up the down then up then down. anyone know what happening

This is being caused by a low charge in the AC system, the idle is due to the rapid kicking on and off of the AC compressor on the engine, each time the compressor comes on the computer raises the idle and then drops it when the compressor turns off. U have no cooling right? U have a leak in the AC, have the leak fixed and then get the system re-charged.

Ac compressor won't kick on

Just had the same issue and posted. Just found the solution is the control module in the dash. Went to the junk yard since new is expensive on these units. Plugged new unit in, was able to charge a/c now blows cold as ice.
