Question about 2001 Buick Park Avenue

Open Question

Random misfire code p300 on my 2001 buick park ave ultra. Loss of power at highway speeds.

While I was driving at highway speeds over 65mph for over an hour, I started to experience power loss while climbing a long, steep, continuos mountain. After slowing down, any time I tried to accelerate I'd experience power loss. Once I pulled over and let the car idle for a few minutes I was able to slowly come up to highway speeds again and experienced no further problems. The engine light stopped blinking and I had the code read which was the p300 code.

SOURCE: 94 Park Ave Ultra intermittent 'check engine soon light' comes on

It sounds like one of the ignition wires is breaking down or possibly a coil. Get a squirt bottle of water and spray a mist on the plug wires and coil to see if a spark starts to jump out. Probably just a bad plug wire.

SOURCE: 92 buick park ave 3.8 sudden bad hesitation loss of power

This is likely a problem with the Mass Airflow sensor, it is a sensor that reads the amount of air going into the engine, when it fails it causes severs hesitation and power loss. Contact a local parts store or your GM dealer for a rebuilt one, the part is about $150.00. It is locate in the air intake hose to the engine.

What is a misfire on engine control system?

The computer will set a misfire code when it sees a lag in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor. If the crank's rotational speed suffers a power loss from a cylinder not putting out as much power as the others, the computer will set the misfire code for that cylinder, or if it cannot determine which cylinder is not producing the expected power, it will set the code for a random misfire.

Troubleshooting misfire codes generally involves checking gas, spark, and compression. One of those, or the lack of it, is usually responsible for misfires.
