what is the EGR valve and where is it located?

(it can't be the fuel pump because i just replaced that because of fuel problems. I am getting fuel to the carb, i just don't know why it does what it does now.)

First check:
Your EGR valve is carbon up and is sticking open. You have to take it off and clean with carbon cleaner. (EGR controls idle)

Second check:
Could be fuel pump is starting to go on it.

1984 Ford Ranger- will not idle at all, will start and run with your foot on the pedal at high RPM's- I installed new carb so that's not it was acting the same before- I bought it for a huntin

Check for a vacuum leak somewhere. It could b the pcv valve on the valve cover or the hose going to the brake booster. Take the hose off the brake booster and plug it. then start the engine. It might also b the base gasket under the carb.

Well mazda rotory engines run alot hotter exhaust if it has the wrong exhaust on it it might not be breathing correctly and then it will not run properly.
