What would cause my muffler to glow redhot on a 99 navigater

Raw unburned fuel is entering the exhaust system. Is the vehicle running rough/misfiring? IS the check engine light on/flashing? If so, have the codes scanned to isolate the problem cylinder causing this issue

Muffler gets to hot

Is engine running OK? If so and the muffler is an economy muffler, take it back to where you had it installed and see what they will do for you. If the engine IS NOT running right , it may be running to lean and tat causes an overly hot exhaust system. You may need to have the engine diagnosed for performance issues.

My problem is malfunction code 51 and if I have bad convertor does this result code 51ode

Code 51 is a lean code and is not caused by a converter most likely a vacuum leak is causing this problem if the engine seems to run fine inspect vacuum hoses and intake gaskets for leaks or breakage

2004 F150 5.8 Triton has a hesitation problem and slight backfire. We are in Belize where gas is not always filtered as in the states. We've changed the fuel filter 3 times in the last year but still...

That sounds to me like a bad oxygen sensor and/or a bad throttle position sensor. Is the "Check engine" light on? If it is, have someone check the problem codes. Either one of these will show up as a code. Either of these sensors can cause the fuel mixture to be too lean. A lean mixture can cause both of these problem. If the backfire is in the engine and not the muffler, that us almost always caused by a lean mixture. Since the fuel filter has not helped, I doubt that is the problem. If the engine has a spark knock on acceleration or hard pull, the fuel could be to low octane. If the knock is happening, you can get octane boosters to add to the tank of gas. Good luck.

Check engine light on, but no drivability issues, no unusual sounds, runs perfect but the light is worrying me. would a loose muffler possibly cause the light to turn on?

find a garage with a code reader. This will help you faster. A loose muffler can cause if it is near the oxygen sensors. Other than that just read the codes.

Check engine light keeps coming on. Lean fuel

A lean code can be caused by several different things. The most common, if you are getting a lean code on BOTH banks, is a dirty Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) Cleaning the MAF usually fixes it.

If not, it could be caused by anything from a crack in a vacuum line to a bad fuel pump. (Anything that could make the engine run lean.)

Check Engine Light Problem

Codes that tell you your engine is running lean can be caused by a number of things. First thing to do (and cheapest) is to get some fuel injector cleaner and run it for awhile. Dirty injectors can cause these codes. I recommend lucas brand myself but there are several different cleaners to choose from. The second thing is checking your vacuum lines. If there is a leak it can cause the engine to **** in too much air and cause the codes. Anything beyond that gets into alot of mechanical work and should be done by a certified technician
