Question about 1999 Lexus RX 300
The hatch release lever is likely stuck in the upright position, opening position which overrides the remote lock release so the hatch remains locked.
Reach up as though opening and pull the lever back down with your hand inverted. If it is in the upright position, it has likely seized due to rust build up. You can spray a rust busting penetrant up at either end of the handle. Then reach up with a fine bladed screw driver to scrape way any visible rust at the outside end of the handle where it pivots on its axle,. This is the shortcut. Dismantling from inside may be required This may temporarily free the handle but the rust will need to be removed for ongoing use. I posted the procedure yesterday for another owner. Post back to clarify what you have found.
There are two ways to clean the rust, the free shortcut if you are lucky and the $350 ++ method if you break things by rushing into the internal repair. Post back to let me know how the spray works and I will follow up

Fairly common, you will have to crawl into the back and remove the plastic trim cover on the lower half of hatch. once you pull off cover you will see latch assy. and be able to pull lever manually.

The latch inside the door is broken, the handle will need replacment. Reapiring door handles is difficult, I've tried. they jsut break again. Until you fix it you've got four other ways to get into your RX. :)

1. I presume your button on the dash (which opens the trunk) is not working. You could take that button out of the dash panel and manually activate the circuit by using the wires themselves.
2. If the "valet" key doesn't fit the trunk lock, see if the keys are visible through the center back seat access 'hole', make a wire hook attached to a broom handle, etc. and try to catch the ring the key is on. If the view is blocked by other things you can't move, figure out at way to move things in the trunk so you can get something to reach the key(s). Do you have other metal keys on the same keyring? If so, use a magnet to grab the whole set.
3. Have you considered taking out the rear seat? Do the bottom seat cushion first, then the back.
4. By now you have hopefully already gotten your keys back out of the trunk, but if not I hope one of these suggestions works. MW
