my 1997 chev 350 vortec -- have not found any bad wires but going to replace oil sending unit soon easy to get to driver side under spark plug at front of engine. As for water leak when new engine was put in with new Fel-pro gaskets still leaked so replaced with Fel-Pro gaskets again still leaks. Did compress and leak down test both were good, no white smoke no misfire.

New electrical problem when on cruise and turn lights on criuse turns off and will not reset while lights are on, if turn lights off then cruise can be applied again.

Solved rear lights going off by putting in a new brake light system not connected to truck system using new switch and lights. Then truck flashers and turn signals worked and running lights worked, these have not gone out again since made brake light change.

Big Question ;;; Want to joint new brake light wire to truck brake light wire with a one way diode so when brakes applied DC current can not go back the cab at all just to brake lights, can anyone tell me if this is possible ??

The parking brake is near a large bundle of wires, if the bundle is touching the brake arm it may have damage, use wire ties and tie it out of the way of the park brake.

Testimonial: "oil gauge wires are not rubbing parking brake lever-- sending unit works when at idle showing 40 to 60 pounds -- what is moving the oil pressure gauge hand is the problem I think but must remove whole dash to replace whole instrument panel. Will not let me remove only instrument panel"

SOURCE: 1997 chev 1500 with 350 vortec milky oil in dipstick tube

Sorry to say its your head gaskets. Probably from the overheating it wore out the gaskets. that milky stuff is your coolant mixing with your oil. Good luck. Suggest you take it to a pro. the gaskets are easy to change, it's everything else in the way to get to them that requires special tools and experience. Let me know how it goes. I have the same thing with my truck but not real bad. If your truck is running smooth and doesn't feel like its missing, or when your start it no puff of white smoke comes out your exhaust it's not that big of problem. if these are happening then i would get a quote.

How to adjust gas gauge to read right not reading way over filled like it does now. When 1997 chev 350 vortec truck gauge is at 1 st red mark close to empty, better not past gas station ! ! !

the fuel level sender is inside the fuel tank, part of the fuel pump assembly. did you or was the tank replaced before??they may have bent the float arm on reassembly . you can buy the sender from your parts supply store .you will have to drop the tank to do this it clips onto the side of the pump assembly. run it almost dry first as the tank is big n very heavy even 1/4 full. you can try to bend the old arm

but its very hard on the "sender" as for level indicator full to empty, think of the shape of the tank narrow at top to widest point in the middle (full to half) wide middle to narrow bottom( half to empty)

its just an overall volume thing

My 2000 Jeep GC laredo had the same problem. I changed the oil pressure sensor (I think that is what it is called) and it now reads really high on my gauge but I havent had any more problems and I dont get that annoying ding when it hits zero anymore when I let off the throttle. In case you dont know, the sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine back towards the fire wall. You just have to disconnect the wiring harness and use a large socket to unscrew the sensor. Once you locate the sensor it should only take 5 minutes to replace. Hope this helps.

Low oil presure

perform a master oil pressure test. this is done by removing the oil pressure sending unit and installing a oil pressure gauge. if the reading on the test gauge is ok, the sending unit needs to be replaced. if the pressure reads low on the test gauge, there may be excessive bearing wear or you may have worn valve guides. good luck!

Oil pressure gauge goes up when car started, but then down to 0

u Have a problem with the oil sending unit. The sensor is located beack right side of the engine block. Take out the switch and make sure u have good oil PSI. Should be 6 psi at idle and around 50 at 4000 RPM. If the presure is ok replace the switch they are very cheap about 20 bucks. Please rate.
