Have a 95 ford ranger 4 cyl need to know where coolant temp switch is located my gauge is inop i found coolant temp sensor for computor need one for the gauge

On the 4 cylinder motor (2.3L,2.5L), the coolant temp sensor can be located
on the left side rear of the engine, below the cylinder head.

A picture of a typical Coolant Temp Sensor (aka ECT) is below:

Be sure to partially drain coolant below the level of the sensor to avoid spillage when removing the old part. Best of luck on your repair!

P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Performance, This DTC is usually set by a defective coolant temp. sensor or the related wiring. However, there is an old service bulletin. TSB#18-017-03 that calls for replacement of the Powertrain Control Module to repair this condition.

Dash temp guage goes to red on 2000 ford focus dohc zetech

Because you have done so many repairs already I would most likely say that the gauge is defective. I would use a manual temp probe and probe the coolant temp after the car has reached operating temp. Coolant will be between 180- 230 degrees. If coolant temp checks out and you can see coolant moving in radiator and the vehicle does not overheat then you will need either a gauge or a coolant sensor. To locate the sensor it should either be mounted in the thermostat goose neck housing or the intake manifold.

I have a 2003 volkswagen jetta, no owners manual, outside temps have been really cold, below the temp gauge a temp light comes on and a chime sounds, temp gauge runs fine, had a friend ck coolant, it...

does it do this first thing when its cold out ?? if so, fill the coolant res to the max line when cold, if light still comes on, it could be either the coolant leven sensor (my guess) or the temp sensor for the engine- these are known to go bad every few years

Truck runs rich, black smoke, it seemed to have started once we changed the thermostat.Someone said it is limp mode? or bad ground Any ideas Randy

sounds like your coolant temp sending unit may have failed and the pcm is not getting the correct engine temp to govern the air/fuel mixture. this is not the coolant temp sensor for the radiator fan, that is a separate sending unit. what temp thermostat did you install? it should be a 190-195 degree to keep the coolant temp correct and help with the emissions.
