Question about Cars & Trucks

1989 mercedes 560 sel, gas, w126/ Car cold starts every morning and idles for 10 min. then stalls

Car cold start every morning and idles fine, yet after 10 min. it will stall and not restart until cold again. If though after approx. 5 min. of idling and I rev motor to 3000 rpm it will stay running forever until I bring it back to idle...stalls again. Starting fluid doesn't work after that..replaced fuel pump relay recently too, no help. Also what does the fuel accumulator do exactly?

catalytic converter is clogged basically its stopping up your exhaust. Over time the pressure will slowly vent out, allowing your car to start, only to build up the backpressure again, stalling engine.

1996 mercedes c280 dies when put in drive

Engine stalls or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
