SOURCE: i got the code P0406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation

The term EGR stands for "exhaust gas recirculation." what it does is re-route all the unburned exhaust gases in the combustion chamber to the intake manifold to get reburned. Now, that being stated, you DO NOT need EGR at idle, only driving at higher speeds. Such as freeways and high ways. IT will most certainly affect the way your engine runs. It will cause sort of a miss fire condition. The solution here, in my opinion, would be to replace the EGR Solenoid and BOTH gaskets. One should be a cork gasket and the other steel. Replace the gaskets and the EGR Solenoid, should get rid of the problem. To save some money, you can try to remove the EGR Solenoid and clean it thoroughly with brake cleaner and try to reinstall it. This may only be a temporary fix though. If it does work and the light comes on again, then you know for sure you need to replace the EGR Solenoid. good luck!

The DTC P0405 is for (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor Circuit "A" Low)
