You will have to remove the tank from the car and clean it out really well hopefully you have not started this car with the sugar in it as it dissolves into the fuel and really makes a mess of the cylinders

What should i do if someone puts sugar in my gas tank?

This is one of the greatest urban myths. Sugar in fact does not dissolve in or combine with petrol, so it will lay in the bottom of the tank.

However if there is a large amount of sugar it may clog up the filters, so it is best to get it mostly out. If the tank has a drain plug it is easy, just remove that, catch all the fuel, let the sugar settle out, replace the plug, pour in the clean fuel above the sugar, and repeat all the procedure once or twice.

If there is not a drain plug the tank will have to be dropped out, which is not a hard job for a mechanic with a hoist. This is also a good opportunity to check and clean the filter on the fuel pump, which is mounted on the tank.

Then lastly if you get any signs of trouble, replace the in-line fuel filter in the engine bay.

The engine itself will not be harmed.

2003 Honda Civic remove sugar from the gas tank and lines

it has been shown that sugar is not dementrial to the running of an engine
it's basic chemistry is hydrocarbon the same as oil, fuel so it will dilute out in a few tank fills ethanol os refined sugar with most sugar cane farms now converting to ethanol production
if you are still not assured , then remove the line before the filter and run the pump to pump out the tank
fit a new filter and fill the tank
replace the filter at around 1/2 tank

Someone sugared my gas tank. i have a chrysler 300 m. i flushed the gas tank and now its sitting in my yard. I never turned the key over at all. I noticed it right away. How long do i have to wait for it...

First off it is a myth that sugar will destroy an engine. Sugar will not dissolve in gasoline. Depending on how much sugar was added it could clog the fuel pump sock filter. You have drained the tank, so add 5 gallons of fuel to the tank and start the engine. It will do no harm whatsoever. You may have to change the fuel filter a few times if the sugar clogs it but otherwise no harm will be done.

Sugar in tank need to check see how far it is in there. you cant put fuel in it and is got bout a gallon in it. how do i remove the fuel filler tube?

If the car has not been run you can siphon the gas out of the car and then fill it up to dilute what little sugar will be left.

If its been run already you really have more problems that you think. There are quite a few things that will have to be looked at and replaced. Fuel filter, maybe the pump, injectors, etc.

Are you saying the filler tube is clogged? with Sugar?

1 week ago someone put sugar or i found sugar around the gas opening and i felt down in it sugar. But the car still ran untill this weekand now it bogs down and tries to die but i can still start it. What...

please tell me you have not been driving around after finding sugar in the tank, cos if you have, and the sugar has gone right through the system, it is going to cost you tank/new fuel carb or injectors, even pistons and valves.....(what happens when you put sugar on a spoon and heat it.....)ive got to say it, HOW STUPID.

Sugar in gas tank

if it still starts then your ok.remove gas tank and dump fuel.clean out any sugar on bottom of tank.go throuh the fuel pump hole. use a water hose if needed then let it dry.fill up tank and just run it it will be ok. what sugar does to an engine [and never mind myth busters, they are wrong] ive seen it 4 times, someone in town was having fun with sugar in the tank.anyways with enough sugar in gas tank the sugar disolves in the fuel.then engine, especially the valve stems get hot and sugar becomes a molten goo on the parts, valves, pistons, cylinders, fuel injectors.only the hot parts seem to be effected. then when you turn the engine off the sugar cools and becomes hard like a piece of hard candie.the valve stems are now locked into valve guides and cannot open or close,it takes alot more driving to damage pistons and rings only a little sugar is injected on every intake stroke and its aimed right at the valve mile of driving i dought will cause problems. beware that if the sugar was poured it dry you will need to flush out the filler neck.if it was dry then very little got in the tank anyway, unless you put gas in it after sugar was added

Sugar in Fuel

The only thing i can tell you is to get all the gas you can out of the tank, even if it means droping the tank. Then blow out the fuel line, install new filter, fill up with new gas with a fuel additive that cleans injectors and run it. I believe the worst that can happen is clog up the injectors, witch may not happen if you just run it. Depending on how much sugar was put in it.
