piston rings or valve stem seals. Both will cause excessive oil consumption and smoking. Worst case scenario: head gasket/head/block issues.

Chevy s-10 4cyl starts only with pedal only to floor but sputters bad and wont accelerate.

On Chevrolet fuel injected vehicles holding the accelerator on the floor during cranking activates "clear flood mode " that turns the fuel injectors off the fact that it then starts tell me that the engine is flooded or the ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor or circuit is telling the ecm the wrong temp several other causes are blown fuel pressure regulator, low fuel pump pressure, low compression or faulty coil pack

Starting engine

If this is the V8, you might have a leaky fuel pressure regulator that is seeping fuel into the vacuum control line that attaches to it. If this happens then this extra fuel gets into the intake manifold and causes the engine to be partially flooded when an attempt is made to restart it. If the vehicle sits long enough or sits overnight this extra fuel will evaporate away and the engine will start normally. When the problem is occuring It usually will misfire for a bit or even stall once and often there will be a puff of black smoke out of the exhaust when it does restart. The regulator is located on the left hand side of the engine above the intake manifold. It's about 1-1/2" in diameter and about that long with a small vacuum line attached to the end/top of it. If you remove the vacuum line and can detect even a trace of fuel in it [liquid or even vapor] then that is most likely your problem.

After starting car it sputters and white smoke from exhast. I drive the car for 5 min, sputtering the whole time, and turn it off - will not start until it is cranked and gas pressed for couple min. Then...

White smoke is usually from water and water will make the car splutter. Did you get water in your tank at some time. If you have water in your fuel, you will have to drain the tank and refill with good fuel. The engine will run fine once it is hot but if a lot of water goes into a hot cylinder it can cause a lot of damage.

1983 Honda Accord - possible fuel line problem

Flooded means there is too much gas and it blows black smoke and sputters when it does start, right? Flooded has to do with the carburetor, nothing else. There are little windows on the float bowls to see what the fuel level is. If the fuel level is too high it will flood. I sounds like maybe the needle and seat are bad and the carburetor needs an overhaul. If it sputters and no black smoke then it isn't getting enough gas and then your filter search may be the right path. The primary filter should be behind the left rear wheel against the body. Support the car and take the wheel off is easiest way to change it.

Big puff of white smoke at start up after sitting for several hours.

white smoke is water
blue smoke is oil.
nest time try and smell the white smoke see if it smells sweet?
if it does its antifreeze.
and also black smoke is fuel (like a leaky injector )
hope this helps
