Question about 2000 Chevrolet Lumina

1 Answer

Dash lights switch parking tail

I have a 2000 lumina, and I currently don't have any dash, brake, or tail lights. I replaced the bulbs but still nothing. Turn signal lights work. Also checked fuses, and all are good

SOURCE: brake light on 2001 chevy blazer LT 2wd

When my blazer did this they had to replace part of the wiring harness in the steering wheel. It took forever for them to get the parts because we live in nowhereville, but once it was in it works again and no problems. I had to take it to the actual chevy dealer because none of the other places had a clue. good luck.

SOURCE: No rear brake light / turn signals on 2001 Chevy Cavalier

The problem is the turn signal/headlight/hazard switch assembly on the steering column which the brake light wiring runs through. The part is easy to change and cost about $50 at most parts stores

SOURCE: No tail lights on 1991 Chevy Silverado. fuse is good

sounds like a broken wire in the harness. look around the bumper area, sometimes along the frame. may have to peel back some tape covering. also if you have a trailer harness look closely at those.

SOURCE: 2003 Impala Brake lights dont work

The brake lights are routed through the signal light switch.
Looks like that will be the next switch to replace and the problem.

1994 dodge dakota my headlights and tail lights and brake lights don't work my abs and parking brake lights are on my dash lights don't work either I replaced the headlight switch and still no

These are all different circuits. The brake lights are on a 10amp fuse - the headlights are on a 50amp fuse - and the parking and dash lights are on a 20amp fuse.
Do you have power going into the headlight switch and the brake light switch ?

Dash lights and parking lights dont work

Do the headlights work? do the tail lights work?
If you haven't checked the fuses, do that first. If they aren't blown, the next likely problem is the switch itself. These can be found in working condition from a junk yard.
My Cavalier lost it's tail lights and parking lights, but the headlights worked, I had to replace the switch on the steering column.
If it is the problem, it is not too complicated to replace yourself with basic tools. You will need a steering wheel puller and you will want to disconnect the battering. Be extra careful with the airbag.
Good luck

My tail lights don't work, but my brake lights do?...

Could be a double fillerment bulb, replace it . Second option replace fuse. If that does not work and the parking lights, some dash lights dont work also it could be the worst option. the headlight switch. difficult to access behind the dash.

The brake lights wont work. The brake light over

the break light wire on the lumina runs through the blinker switch or multifunction switch on the colum.. check there as well as at the tail light sockets. on the late 90s gm cars the sockets had a tendancy to rot away... use a test light at the brake light wire in the trunk and have a friend apply the break. if there is power then may have to get new tail lights. or replacement bulbs.

LED does'nt work on tail light but conventional bulb is working

Your description indicates the replacement led bulb is either defective or not a direct replacement for the ordinary bulb, which I assume is a 2-filament stop/tail type because if you have a good ground and both supplies are present as indicated by the fact the ordinary bulb worked fine, the led should similarly work if it is good.

I suggest you check the supply voltages while the led is fitted. It might happen that some device in the lighting circuit is monitoring the amount of current or resistance of each bulb and will not provide a supply unless it "sees" the correct amount.

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/electrics/switches/switch-headlight/1027524/ to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Good luck
