HI, your assessment is correct. this is a fuel filter and pump issue. i would also add a fuel injector cleaner after the replacement of the fuel pump and filter. this will scrub the fuel system and clean any debris that may exist at this point. Techtron injector cleaner is the best solution when cleaning the injector system.

I would also inspect the spark plug wires for faults as well. make sure they are fitted tightly over the plugs.

Sounds like a faulty crankshaft position sensor to me. Are you getting a code PO320?

My guess would be for some reason the idle air control valve is not working.
The computer controls idle speed by how much air enters the throttle body.
Could be a problem with the memory in the computer, sometimes you have to drive the vehicle for a day or two for the computer to relearn the settings.

This could be a blockage in the carburator, try to clean it, especially the valves. There is a specific spray for the job on the market. You might need to dismantle it.

hey that sounds familiar!have you checked your idle control sensor? let me tell you 1st you crank it cold, you have to keep your foot on the gas pedal until it warms up.but then when you come up to red light quick stop, the engine dies or wants to stop? sometimes it starts fine? but when it does, after running for a few minutes,it idles up and down? when it's warm after driving 15miles or so,you shut it off and try a restart, and the engine starts, but idles up and down? all of the above are signs of a bad idle control sensor.the part costs about $20.00 u.s. 2bolts removal 1 PLUG IN REMOVAL you may be able to do it yourself.have an autozone or advance autoparts store employee show you where it's would be shocked at how many great people there are left in the world! i'm answering your question for free at midnight from the u.s. think i'm bored? no. just love helping people like you! thank you so much!

I know this is going to sound way to simple, but I would look for a air leak on the intake side. The reason I say this is that your engine runs because the computer feels it knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING.. Kind of like *********** N law. Well, when you get a vaccum leak, the computer doesnt know its stupid and raising the idle or POOR idle is one of the effects.

Now I am not at all saying this couldnt me something much more difficult, however VAC leaks are also pretty easy to check. Get yourself a can of SPRAY CARB CLEANER from your local parts store, some times gas stations have it too, wal-marts and places like that have it. Start your truck and SPRAY the CARB CLEANER around places that could have a VAC leak. Like hoses, the intake manifold gaskets and those kinds of things. If your engine suddenly runs REALLY ROUGH or even DIES when you spray a certian spot you know thats where your leak is.

I hope this helps you as much as it helped me

2000 Dodge Durango Won't Start

You might want to Check electronic sensors, like would you start with the idle control sensors. Also Try tot urn the ignition key to the point just before the engine starts to turn over And leave the key in the that position. If the fuel pump is located inside the gas tank, remove the gas cap & listen for a "whirring" sound. This sound means your electronic pumping is working.
