Question about 2004 Ford Focus

1 Answer

Car is stuck. Might be an emergency brake problem.

My car is stuck. It will not move if I try to go into Reverse or 1st gear. The emergency brake moves up and down like normal, but I believe it is stuck... What do I do?

My 1994 Subaru Impreza seems to feel as if the emergency brake is stuck; however it is not. I can place the car in first gear, but first gear only....it will not move past 1st gear. What is this...

Sounds like a broken shifter or linkage issue. But you can do this:

Go to online site of autozone, oreillys...etc and you may have to register but they have free online step by step manuals.

Could frozen e brakes cause car not to go forward, car moves easy in reverse

No. An emergency brake on the 86 camaro engages the pads against the rotor and the vehicle would not move either in reverse or forward. It sounds like you have a gear problem in the transmission that could be related to either solenoid or actual gear wear. Assuming the vehicle is being MOVED as you say while the engine is running.. thus providing the energy to move it.. Going in reverse has the solenoid engaged one way, drive the other way. Solenoid sounds damaged at this point. Unfortunately this probably will require a transmission rebuild.

When the manual emergency brake was released, the car won't go into 1st or reverse...it was sitting for 6 days with the brake on.

The brake is probably stuck in place. From sitting for so long, the brake probably got stuck and won't disengage.

My gear shift is stuck and will not move from park to reverse. I had backed out the car and turned it off. when I went to move the car, my gear shift will not move out of the park position.

do the brake lights work? the system has a lock out that keeps you from moving out of park unless the brake circuit is activated, hence no brake lights no park lock out release, if the brk lights do work u most have a stuck or defective park lock out solenoid.

My Bronco is stuck in reverse

Make sure your emergency brake cable hasn't seized up. Some vehicles use reverse to adjust the brakes. Try moving the vehicle with the clutch pushed in, then with the clutch out to make sure it is not sticking, check your shifter linkage to make sure it is not bent or sticking.
